Hi guys when my car was stored the tank was clean there were all new fuel lines and a new fuel pump so all the lines are not gummy . We have gas to the fuel distributor and to the cold start the gas just wont come out of the fuel distributor we have the rebuild manual and took it apart and cleaned everything it all seems to be ok still no gas out of it any ideas would help she starts but wont stay running Thanks Jim :frantic:

You won't get fuel sprayed from the injectors unless you press the air plate down. You need to pull all six injectors and put them jars to test this.

How long has it been since the car ran last? Pull the injectors - all of them - put them in jars, jump the RPM relay so the pump runs, check to make sure there is NO gas or drippage, then slowly press down on the plate and see what the pattern is like. Then report back!

Andy just spoke to my mechanic he said he did do that all ready and still no gas coming out of thr distributor . Can you advise on what to try next ? Thanks Jim

OK, so they are saying that when the fuel pump is running (RPM relay is removed and the connector is jumped so that the pump is on, nothing else) and they press down on the air plate that no fuel is coming out of the injectors at all?
Need a little more information:
1. When the car was parked, was it running fine? How long has it been in storage?
2. Explain what you did when you took the car out of storage to get to the point you are at now.
3. You said the car has all new fuel lines and new fuel pump. When did this occur, where did you get parts, and who installed it?
4. Have they removed the fuel inlet line from the distributor and verified that gas is reaching the distributor? Perhaps when the pump was installed it was put in backwards or got the hoses kinked?
They could test all this by pulling out the pump, pulling the return line out of the tank, and running the pump. There should be a steady stream of fuel coming out of the return hose. When they reinstall the pump they might need to loosen the pickup hose clamp at the bottom of the pump to make sure the pickup hose is not kinking in the tank. They may need to follow the metal lines and make sure the pump hoses are on the right barbs so it is feeding the right direction!

"A" Short test - remove the fuel line at the fuel distributor that comes from the filter. Turn the pump on. See if gas comes out. If not, proceed to B
"B" disconnect the line that goes from the fuel distributor that goes to the metal line below the ignition coil cover. Turn the pump on. If fuel comes out there, the hoses are backwards at the pump.

The distributor has fuel gas is going into it it just wont come out of it to go in the injectors. The pump was installed we just wired it . We are thinking its the distributor because we have gas in we cant get it to go out . I have no idea how long the car sat or who did the work . Can you buy a new distributor or should it be rebuilt ??

I would go over all of the hoses to make sure you connected it correctly. Rare for the unit to be completely stuck.

[QUOTE=Jim Curnane;51778 The distributor has fuel there is gas going into it it just wont come out of it to go in the injectors.
OK but what we are saying is they need to double-check the hose routing to make sure the distributor isn't hooked up backwards. I'm not quite sure what that would do but it's very odd that fuel is actually going into the distributor but it won't come out of the injectors. It's all mechanical so if it's hooked up correctly it pretty much has to work. The primary pressure regulator is spring loaded, so if the fuel supply is coming through the return side, it wouldn't be able to get past the PPR and actually into the distributor. If fuel is going into the distributor I don't see how it wouldn't be able to make it to the injectors unless the distributor was blocked somehow.... like if someone used a regular bolt instead of a hollow bolt?!?!?
My guess is that the fuel inlet and outlet hoses are reversed at the pump since you said the pump was replaced.
If you can answer the questions I posted above that would be a good start so we can help you.

Agreed. I don't think there is a failure mode where the FD could be getting gas into the inlet but not be able to get it into the injectors. The most common problem with the FD is a stuck metering pin. If the pin were missing, the intake would flood. If the pin were stuck, it would be gushing gas though the injectors since the plate has been moved (causing the pin to be lodged up in the FD). I don't think the FD could get so plugged up that gas pressure wouldn't break through it and make it to at least one injector.
Here is a chart showing how the hoses go onto the FD - you need to physically trace all these hoses and make sure it's right. I still think it got swapped at the tank side. Very easy to do.

Excellent! I'm actually rebuilding my 3rd DeLorean fuel system right now. If you have any other questions or problems feel free to PM me or post it up here!
Love a happy ending!

Hi Andy I need some help with these 2 pieces
1. The black plastic I know it goes at the bottom of the windsheild we are having a problem putting it in place are there supposed to be spacers or something ? We can get the windsheild wipers on if you just put it in place ???
2. I think the 2nd one goes inside in the back toward the foof ??? Thanks I would appreciate it if you could shed any light on these 2. This car was apart when we got it not easy. Thanks Jim

Jim,
The top part is item 1 found on this page -
http://store.delorean.com/c-319-8-7-5-general-interior-trim.aspx
I have never removed that part so I'm not sure how it goes back in.
The bottom is the windscreen scuttle, part 16 here -
http://store.delorean.com/c-395-8-3-0-stainless-panelsdoor-frame.aspx
Again, I've never removed one but it appears there is a spacer needed where each screw is.
I will check one of the D's in my garage this afternoon and get more details.

Hi Andy we put new copper washers in the fuel distributor because of leaks . Its not leaking anymore but the idle is now surging up and down its going from 5000 rpm to 1000 any idea what could be causing this ?? Thanks Jim

I had my windscreen scuttle off a couple of weeks ago and there is indeed a spacer between the piece and the car. If you are lucky, the PO has re-inserted the screws and washers in their holes.
The tabs at the end have to go under the edges of the fenders, so a little careful flexing must occur. This is 30 year old plastic, that may have sat in the sun, so beware, in case it is brittle. Your wiper arms must be off too, if they aren't already.

Was it doing this before you put new copper washers on? Sounds like bad vacuum leak.
Jim Curnane

It ran fine before the new washers . There is one vacume hose that we cant figure out where it goes . funny it was fine before we fixed the leake in the distributor. In the mean time does anyone know what goes to these 2 wires in this picture. 10350
It looks like the two wires may be for for the engine compartment light switch (missing in the pic).
It's hard to tell the colors in the pic...one should be Purple/White and the other Black.
Your resistor block is wired wrong - The left side should have the Blue/Yellow wire only. The right side should have the two White wires on the top terminal and the White/Yellow on the bottom.
A loose vacuum line can definitely cause the idle to act up...
What does the other end of the hose connect to? Pic?
I hope you meant 500 instead of "5000" RPM???

Jim there should be a vacuum hose diagram on the underside of the engine cover.according to your photo it appears you have removed the cover? Check the diagram and follow every hose to make sure they go where they should.
+1
If you have an auto, there is a vacuum line going to the modulator from the back of the intake manifold not in the diagram...
