Recently auctioned in the UK was vin 5598, a 1981 car bought at a 1982 auction (sold off by the recievers). It has been kept by the same owner and was unregistered until last year when it had a “light refurbishment” and passed the UK’s road worthiness test (the MOT), and received it’s first tag plate/number plate.

It is a grey auto with only 326 miles on the clock.

Sold for the equivalent of $42,000 (excluding commission and VAT – add another $12000 for that)

Hasn't previously appeared on any VIN list

Didn't people ever drive their Deloreans?:confused2:

At least it's a well perserved example, but I couldn't stand not to drive it. Which is why I probably couldn't own a Concours car (unless I already owned a driver Delorean). Even then I would keep a spare set of wheels with new tires so I could at least drive it around the block.

This is a really nice Delorean though!:rock_on:

Doesn't any glovebox lid fit properly and not have a gap at the bottom?

Amazing story!

So the question is, would the car have been more valuable entirely unregistered?

In this case, it is a little different from the few here that have an MRO sticker as it never made it to a dealer. Never even made it to the States in fact.

Factory fresh, perhaps?

yeah, if i found a 30 year unregistered car, i dont think i could bring myself to register it.

OT, but with a lot of adjustment, my lid fits... well, like a glove :)

SORCERY!

(any chance of a writeup?)

LOL!! Again, OT... but basically the trick is to get all the screws on the hinge and latch clasp just tight enough that they'll stay put, but loose enough that you can reposition the lid while it's closed. Get it where it belongs, open it very gently, and tighten everything very carefully so it doesn't go out of whack as you tighten.

Thanks for that! I was gonna ask the same thing. (see, AdmiralSenn shares my bewilderment of a lined-up glovebox lid!) :)

Were there still 81’s lying around when the receivers went in and auctioned off everything? I would have thought that there were only later cars with higher VINs still there by that time.

Car has just been relisted for sale in Monaco, for only $87,000., exactly as it was in the previous sale.

So if you were regretting not buying it first time around, now's your chance
