View Full Version : Engine Car won't start

Went out to my car this morning to drive it to work, and it refuses to start. Not sure what else to do, so I took a picture of the engine - does anyone see anything wrong with it?

Hmm....looks like it may be missing an accessory belt :thankyou:

I've heard that red vacuum lines can occasionally result in a loss of engine vacuum - could be the culprit here. Since it's early morning, the motor would be cold. Have you done the plug swap? Checked to make sure your PPR O-ring isn't nicked?

Edit: oh wait, the O-ring would be for a hot start. I dunno man, you're on your own. :)

I have to assume a couple of things. The battery is not dead, the motor cranks and you have fuel. You have to figure out if the problem is fuel related or ignition related. Do you hear the fuel pump run? Is there spark?

David, we love ya... but did you look at his picture??

Nonsense. He needs to replace his entire fuel system with a low pressure fuel pump, new fuel line, new fuel filter, new intake manifold, and a rebuilt Motorcraft 2100 carburetor. Then his silly little car will pur like a kitten.

He needs to do a compression test.

Might be a vacuum leak. :ehh:

Its going to be difficult getting to at least one of those spark plugs until he ditches K-Jet.

Edit: I need coffee.

Try pulling the start inhibit relay jumper and replacing it. Should fire right up after you clean those connections.

You probably have low tire pressure.

You probably have low tire pressure.

Likely that or your trans-clutch axel rod is out of alignment. Worth checking both.

Why is no one listening to me??? Red vacuum lines and quite a bit of slugs so the EFI is a super nice up-grade. :)

That what I was going to post. You beat me to it.:hihi:

Pour gas all over it and throw a lit match at it. I guarantee your car will move again.

Disclaimer: Make sure you are standing away from the car when you throw the match at it.

You are all idiots, the engine looks fine. Check your inertia switch.

Wait, you didn't try to fiberglass your plastic coolant bottle... did you? I bet that's the problem.

I was actually surprised how long it took for you to chime in with that. THE 6th POST!?! If you want to be "Bill Jr" you'll need to be faster than that:rofl:

Mike

It may be the lighting in the pic but i think your cylinder heads are missing!

I'd look down the back of the sofa for them. That's where I find stuff that is missing.

Bill Jr SUCKS!

This thread is an excellent example of why K-jet sucks. Once he manages to get the heads and fuel system back on there is no guarantee that his fuel system will operate properly.

When I replaced my engine it took about 5 minutes to put my fuel system back on and the car idled perfectly.

Fuel system ? naaa.

I bet it's because you still haven't replaced all bulbs with LEDs yet.

Let's get this straight once and for all...

With K-Jet, fuel is delivered under pressure created by the system and introduced just before the intake valves. Ready as soon as you turn the key.
Carbs just set there fuming into the atmosphere waiting for the driver to manually supply the power to prime the engine, then for the engine to draw the fuel all the way through the manifold before it even reaches the valves.
So, there is no denying that CARBS MAKE ENGINES SUCK!

When I replaced my engine it took about 5 minutes to put my fuel system back on and the car idled perfectly. So it wasn't the new super hot coil that did that after all ???

YOU SUCK! :smackbum:

You misinterpreted my intentions, sir -- I was just trying to keep him from tempting you over to the dark side.

However, I must apologize for not offering a solution as well-
You need to re-arrange those shiny new glow plugs -- Instead of grouping them all in square (about the center cylinder), use a zig-zag pattern (results with two per cylinder...balancing the output.)

I'm shocked that nobody has mentioned the muffler bearings yet.

I'm shocked that nobody has mentioned the muffler bearings yet.

Here's where I like to shop for my muffler bearings:

Link: Muffler Bearings - one size fits all (http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12&products_id=48&zenid=954caod90snkhenoos1qrq29s0)

Could also be a failed Kuhneutson valve. Link: Replacement Kuhneutson Valve (http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12&products_id=47)

After you get it going be sure to top up your blinker fluid - Kale Co. offers this as well.

The photo of the engine makes this problem hard to diagnose. Good luck finding the cause of the non-start.

As "funny" as this is, let's keep this trolling garbage out of the EFI sub-forum.

Can we keep your garbage out of the General DeLorean forum, Mike? Cant help but to find this post audaciously hypocritical in view of your (over)reaction to my post a week ago.

For some reason I couldn't open the picture so I answered it seriously. Today I can open the picture and the cause now appears to be obvious. Not only did he remove the K-jet he kept going and removed everything on top in preparation for the installation of the toilet/carburetor. Do not forget to run the auxiliary wire for the flush handle. It should be run through the inertia switch for safety. If that does not provide enough "kick" you can always add Plutonium.
