Step 10 of removing the 5-speed indicates "remove the flywheel protection shield". What is that, what part number and where is it located? What is the best angle to get at it?

I hope someone has some experience and can help.

I'm spending way too much time on this project. Everything is covered with either oil or CV grease and it is a PITA to try dropping the tranny while laying on your back.

Thanks for helping,
Nick

Hmm, not seeing them on the parts manual, but I THINK there are actually two of them - one on each side of the transmission very close to the flywheel on the bellhousing? You can find the driver side one easily by following the diagnostics plug down to the black magnetic sensor that fits into the protection shield.

Been quite a while since I have messed with those things.

Edit: Here it is shown in the manual, part #7, 16, and 15.

I just took another look at the tranny and I can see #16, Flywheel Inspection Plate (101073). Looks like I MIGHT be able to get the bolts out (it is pretty close up against the frame). And then the plate may come out or the tranny is removed to get the loose plate out.

A lot of D projects are fun or sorta fun. This one is not:burnout:

Haha, this one took me a moment. For a moment I thought there was some DeLorean scatter shield that I wasn't aware of!
