Hi all,

So I finally got around, made some billet aluminum pulleys with the correct measurements for the bearing. I started a thread awhile ago if no one seen it yet http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?1703-Billet-Aluminum-Pulleys-for-Idler

It has a press fit of .004". The metal ones have a press fit of .002". Since billet aluminum is a softer material need to be tighter, due to differences in thermal expansion between the aluminum pulley & steel bearing. Billet Aluminum pulleys usually have press fit .003" or .0035". I went to .004" to be on the safer side. And I have read plenty online for this matter, people have gone to even .005".

I am looking for someone who has easy access to dyno testing. Have these tested on a dyno rather than driving down the road, plus video. I will send these pulleys for FREE, no cost!!! Bearings with clips installed!!!

I will need this done right away once pulleys are recived!!

PM those who can do this for me!!

Thank you,
Billy

Its sounds like a good deal but wouldn't it be cheaper to pay someone to do the dyno test on your car? Those crankshaft pulleys are worth about $275.

I assume you want a pull done before and after the install? You may want to clarify that.

My car is in pieces, not running! You mention crankshaft pulleys, I am offering, at the moment, the pulleys for the A/C idler.

Hmm. I'm interested in an AC pulley. What is the purpose of the dyno test though?

I know a local guy with a D *and* access to a dyno. Let me forward him the link to this thread and see what he says :)

Why do you want to dyno A/C idler pulley swaps? How could that possibly affect engine power? They look good but not going to affect performance.

It reduces the rotating mass which reduces the drag on the engine. I don't know it there will be any noticeable change by dropping the weight difference between the steel and the aluminum but I'm curious to see as well.

I think you will find any difference gets lost in other variables. Temperature, humidity, etc. will probably have more of an effect as the rotation mass of the pulleys... You will find back to back runs on the same dyno with nothing changing will likely vary by more than the pulleys will gain you.

Besides, the mass would primarily make a difference in the power it takes to get the pulleys turning in the first place, not to keep them spinning. That happens in the half second after you first turn the key.

You would also get some real world gain by not dragging that weight around as you drive, but a dyno won't pick that up.

If you are looking to lose mass, remove your hot air stove etc, take the spare out of the boot, and pee before you drive...

Its a really good deal for anyone who wants to go do a dyno run - swapping the pulleys should only take 15 minutes or so, but I don't think you are going to see the results you are hoping for.

I have access to a Mustang Dynometer. I could do this testing for you. send me your email to talk.
