Just out of curiosity, how would one go about replacing the release cable for the engine cover?

Remove the old one and put the new one in. Remove the back vertical panel inside the car, and the left tail light for access, and also the carbon cannister panel at the left rear of the engine compartment to help fish it though.

Hey Dave since this latch comes up; did we ever definitely confirm that, despite showing the same part from a different angle on the website, the hood latch and the late-style engine cover release are not the same part?

For reference (as shown on the website):

(I can't say as my car has the early style engine cover latch)

Sorry for bumping such an old thread, but I am having an issue with my engine cover latch (early car). When released, it does not pop up, thereby making it a 2 person operation to open the engine cover.

Can I switch the engine cover latch to the hood release part shown below? The engine cover latch shows as NLA on Houston's site. Here's the early style latch:

Usually when it won't pop up it is because the engine cover is rubbing against the rear facia. Either adjust the hinges of the cover forward or shim the facia so it doesn't rub. Adjust the engine cover first, it is easier. To adjust the hinges you have to loosen the nuts and to get to them you have to remove the rear cover panel of the parcel shelf. If the rear facia is very warped you may have to fix it.

+1 with what David said about it rubbing on the rear fascia. Free up some space between those two and it might solve your spring up problem.

I had the same issue when I first got my car and found that I had no rubber bumpers installed on my cover (#106801). Once I added and adjusted those, no more problems. Just another thing to check...
