How much play for a 5-speed input shaft?

How much play (side to side in any direction) is there on a 5-speed input shaft?

I have my tranny out and was surprised to see that the shaft can be moved side to side in any direction. Is this normal?

I don't know the specs, but I thought the exact same thing when I did my clutch 7 years ago.

It's one thing for the input shaft to wobble at the tip, it's another if it's not seated properly inside. Dont forget there's the input shaft trapped inside bearings held by the casing, then the coupler and a long shaft that has to go far beyond the differential, all the way to the pilot bearing. I believe that portion alone is at least 12" of just hanging shaft.
