Flushing out my cooling system today. Anything I should know?

Using radiator flush fluid through the reservoir on the right side of the engine & hopefully it comes out of the front of the car by the radiator? (hex cap plug). IS THAT CORRECT?

Anything else I should know before I do this?

Ended up using the help of Eddie [] & his blog.

Just did a drain & refill. The coolant was still green so I can only assume there wasn't too much garbage inside.

Ack, that blog entry is very old. I've got my process down solid now. Having the new radiator with a drain valve, and the self bleeder kit helps, but it's not necessary. I remember DPI Josh finding a engine block crack near a drain plug, and Captain Carburetor harping on galvanic corrosion fusing the drain plugs to the block. So now I don't bother with the drain plugs.

I prefer to drain the system, mix my own 50/50 coolant and distilled water, and refill. The drain process leaves some coolant in the engine block, heater core, and any other low areas. However, I believe if you do the drain and refill every two years, it’s not necessary to flush out every drop of old coolant. I was never fond of the garden hose method, since I think it's harder to get a 50/50 mix. Plus, distilled water is supposed to be better... but David T disagrees...

newperez, or Mods, can you remove my last name? Thanks!
