From what I've read, the UN-1 transmission had provisions for a speedometer pickups. Early versions had a mechanical pickup, later versions were electronic. What is not clear is if the internals changed to accommodate the pickup. Since the electronic pickup senses teeth as on a gear, it is likely that the internals were not modified. The questions are:

? Does anyone know what sensor was used in this port?
? Or where to get one
? Or what other car's with a Renault tranny would fit?

Here is a picture of the port. It is between the output shaft and the backup switch. You need a top view to see it.

If I could find the sensor, I'd be tempted to put one in (if reasonable) before I reinstalled the tranny ... just in case ...

Be forewarned ... I'm subject to being wrong without notice.

I've never noticed anything on the Delorean Ring Gear assembly that would drive a sensor or gear. I suspect this can only be used in front-drive applications, maybe Martin has seen something.

Me too., .

I wonder if it sensed the ring-gear teeth?

On a front drive car the ring gear is on the other side.

Could that port be up against something on the output shaft? It will always maintain a rotation relative to the speed of the tires just like the ring gear will.

It's against the back side of the ring gear

In the parts manual 4-1-3 is that referred to as the Crown Wheel/Pinion set (item #11)? Does it have 10 M12 (Item #12) screws in it? If so, would the sensor be close to and pointed at the screws?

The Front drive version of the transmission (Renault 369) as used in a Renault 30 used a gear driven speed sensor.
The drive gear for it was part of or integral to the DIFF spider housing. An illustatration of the gear can be seen on page F:01-01 of the servce manual. The helical gear teeth are visible behind the bearing cone.FWIW the image shown had the print negative flipped over. Everything is shown in opposite positions.

On a front drive car the ring gear is on the other side.

So On a front drive car, sensing the teeth could have been possible but nit on the DeLorean.
