Hi all,
I am in Australia, and I have an '82 DeLorean with automatic transmission.
I am finding that the gears sometimes slip whilst engaged, and it seems to becoming more noticeable in the past few weeks. But I took it out for a spin this morning and it behaved quite nicely.
The slipping doesn't happen all the time, but it is happening, and I know it should not be doing this unless there was a problem.
I am thinking of having the box rebuilt, but I am wondering what kind of costs I may be looking at, or, if this slipping may be caused by something else.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards, Craig.

Sounds like you need a new transmission governor.

Cheaper than having the transmission rebuilt.:hihi:

Trans governor will not cause slippage (usually noted as an RPM flare on shifts). It's an internal failure of the clutch packs, usually due to lack of maintenance or overheating over a long period of time. All you can do is make it not get worse.

--Make sure the fluid level is correct. Too low is bad. Too high is bad.
--Go easy on it
--Maybe try some "transmission repair in a can" product. I'm not usually a fan of such things but you won't hurt anything and sometimes it will swell things up and buy some time
--You can set the line pressure higher (see the manual). Don't get carried away with this one

At some point you'll be looking for a rebuild.

I believe SIMid in Melbourne had his transmission rebuilt in this thread http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?3233-Slippage

Although that won't help you in Brisbane, he could give you an idea of the costs in $AUD.
