Hi everyone,

So today I just took ownership of my "new" DeLorean, VIN 6575 and was thrilled to get it. I spent most of the day getting rid of the old fuel and cleaning the tank. All went well with that.

However,

The car won't go into reverse. It's as if there was never a gate created to get it to go over to Reverse. If I shift from 1st to 2nd but stop midway and apply tension to the left to try to find the gate to get over to Reverse, it's as if the gate was never there in the first place. The shifter has nowhere to go to the left and is at a dead end.

I guess I'd feel more nervous if it were in the Reverse gate and nothing was happening, but this is different.

Any ideas?

I also want to say that I think this is an awesome board and I'm really looking forward to being part of the community here. I'll definitely need some help!!

Just like most of us new timers you have to pull up on the stick to allow it to go left into the reverse area. I thought my transmission was f*cked until a visit to dmc Florida where they showed me. Felt a little silly, but was happy.

Get out your Owner's Manual AKA Delorean Owner's Handbook. (You did get one with the car didn't you?) On page 14, first column bottom it says "To select Reverse it is necessary to LIFT UP on the gear knob whilst moving lever to its position".

Wow, ok, I feel like a tool now. Thanks guys, that was it.

Dave: I did order the full set of manuals, including the owner's manual, and I did look at it for this issue but admittedly not very close.

Thanks again.
