I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I think this one was painted red and has had a fire.
Other than that, if you've got someplace to store it $300 actually isn't a bad price for what's left.

I don't think there is even 300 bucks there. Sad ending.

I guessing the fire department pulled up on the hood to spray the gas tank.
If it was in the area I'd buy it for 300. The front rims look fine. Maybe the steering rack survived too. There might be some salvage parts there.

Where do you get that idea? The front grill alone is $350. The front two fenders will also go for a pretty penny, and the front rims will easily fetch some cash. If the rear rims can be cleaned and re-coated, there's two more.
Those plus the fascia, headlights, spare tire (if it's there), radiator/fans, and everything else at the front of the car, there is easily over a thousand dollars worth of parts visible in that picture. I don't understand how you can think it's not even worth $300.
She is sitting inside my garage.Beat me to it
In all seriousness, I hope you're able to go through the remains and make a nice profit off of it, helping other D's in the process. It always pains me to see another car that badly damaged, and I know I couldn't do a job like that. Kudos for taking the initiative!
Before you sell the fenders, make sure there's no bondo on them. Looking at the other panels, I don't see any signs of unorthodox repairs, and unless it was painted at the dealership back in the 80's, chances are it has some damage to the panels somewhere (well, besides the fire). I can't imagine anyone who buys the fenders is going to be happy if there's bondo on them they didn't know about. Still, there's quite a bit of profit to be had there!

Bondo or deep scratches. I found this on Red's TPanel. Just because there aren't dents on the backside doesn't mean the metal isn't damaged on the other.

what about the left front fender. stripped and regrained, its worth a couple grand.Assuming it's undamaged. With a painted D, there's no guarantees, and a giant bondo patch in the fender isn't exactly worth that kind of money. Repairs for that kind of thing can be damn expensive.
And as Kenny pointed out, deep scratches are an issue too. Painted D's have a tendency to have a very scratched surface to get the paint to adhere and not flake off over time. Paint does a great job of filling in these scratches so they look fine until the paint is taken off. There's no telling what's behind that paint.

i have it as VIN 04510 in my records as well. someone posted a link to it on the old forum in January 2011. the auction listing had all the exact same pictures, but included a bit more information, like the VIN.
EDIT: this is what it supposedly used to look like:

I try to keep tabs on the VINs close to mine...this one is the closest I've seen with a picture associated with it. Very sad.
