Hi

I recently installed new fans and shroud an they are working perfectly, temperature gauge sits just above the the mark below the 220. But today i jumped in the car and after 5 minutes driving the gauge began to climb rapidly, i pulled over, got out and checked the fans were working. The temp the dropped back to the normal mark very quickly, could the sender be playing up?

They usually don't fail that way... More likely it's the thermostat sticking (especially if it only does this when it first warms up), low coolant, otterstat turning the fans on too late...

I'd borrow/rent-to-buy/etc a laser thermometer and determine if it was actually getting hot first...

Sounds like excessive air in the engine. This gets the temp sender in steam rather than coolant and it will seem to take off very quickly without the car feeling actually hot.
