Yesterday, I removed the spare for the 1st time to check out the fuel pump area, and noticed that the wheel well looks like it had been cut away and repaired. Any idea's why someone would do this? what is under the spare tire area ? My original thought is the fiberglass was damaged, and a new well was grafted on from a donor, but I don't think you could get the cuts to match up that well.

I know Bill Robertson likes to hack up the underbody right around there! Maybe he can tell you why :-D

It may have been done to get access to the frame extension to allow repairs - but what a hacky way of putting it back together! Anyway, easily fixed with fiberglass.

My guess is someone tried to enlarge the area to possibly hold a full size spare. What a hack". The good news is it is fiberglass and can be repaired so that you could not tell it was chopped up. Anything else hacked on the car! Generally if you see that kind of stuff the PO did not stop with just that.

i know on my car under there in that area , when i tried to remove the cover to the fuel pump that some of the screws wouldnt not come loose. like the taps on the other side came undone. i had to cut most of mine out to gain access to anything. will repair, but will probably use velcro instead of screws and taps.

He has been banned. Remember?
In all seriousness, my guess is the original fiberglass got cracked possibly due to someone standing in there and they replaced it with donor fiberglass from another car.
