I am thinking about purchasing a used windshield on Ebay from a local seller. The windshield has the DMC logo so I assume it to be an original equipment window.
What I would like to confirm is if the window originally came with a brown tint at the top of the windshield or this discoloration due to age?
The cracked windshield I want to replace in my car has a grey tint but is a replacement windshield so I have nothing to compare it to.
Thanks

The early windscreens do have what appears to be a brown/amber cast, probably due to age. The ones with the antennae seem to be even browner/more amber. Compare it to the rear window, it gets brown/amber too.

Mine has a gray tint at the top and it's a Nov 81 build. Age and sunlight could possibly affect the color though making it look more brown, or it could have been a production change.
Unless the used windshield you are looking at is drastically cheaper than the new reproductions from DMCH you may just want to go with a new one. I think there were issues with the old glass starting to delaminate anyway.
Also, if you are replacing the windshield be sure to have an experienced shop do the work. The glass is structural and once it is removed the upper roof section of the car needs to be supported while the new glass is installed. If not done properly you may end up with the front of the car sagging forward and your doors no longer lining up properly. The DMC dealers have special jigs they use inside the car to hold the roof in place while swapping glass.

Generally when they are brown like that they are somewhat more brittle.
