Hi all,

I posted this on my other thread, http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?1437-How-to-Remove-Crankshaft-Pulley/page12 but I might as well start a new thread just for this!!
I am done on the design for the Crankshaft pulley, ready to get a couple done!

I have the 2 timing marks there, exactly where the original ones are!!

Angle view, Side view, and Back view!
http://i46.tinypic.com/sgswo2.jpg

I am curious on the timing marks and how it works? Never done it or even seen anyone do it.

From what I can see the 2 timing marks on the stock pulley are identical in size from what I can see, correct??

PLEASE let me know if anything else should be done or corrected! ON my end everything is correct, size, shape, timing marks!

I was going to make one of these with a CNC lathe but wasn't cost effective withe the material. If youbcan do it for a cheaper price I am interested in one. One thing to note is that you need a ss sleeve to put on the back to prevent any wear issues. I beleive Rob Grady sells them, or he used to.

Cool part drawing. What program do you use?

What price you had in mind? I just saw on DMCH, a stock one goes for $282.45 Wow!!!!

What is the S/S sleeve for? Haven't heard off anything like that. Is there a picture of it or something?

Is this the sleeve you were talking about?? http://store.delorean.com/p-7751-sleeve-crank-pulley.aspx

Whats the point of it? My crank pulley, was dirtly worn out shape, but the back part of it was still good, in almost new condition!

The sleeve is to prevent wear on the pulley itself from the front main seal. Without it, the pulley could become grooved and the seal would no longer function. I dont think it was sleeved from the factory though, but rather a commonplace addition to your pulley when replacing the seal because it had become grooved.

The sleeve (made by Speedi-sleeves and available from rswww.com) is required because steel has a much lower wear rate than aluminium, and the front main seal will eat a groove in it ten times faster than the original steel pulley

The original pulley is steel.

FWIW I've noticed that the aluminum water pump pulleys wear over time from the V-belt, something I've never seen with a steel pulley or a serpentine belt. This is probably an 80-thousand-mile problem, but something to think about.

Hey guys,

I am ready to place an order for these!!!

The 2 timing marks are exactly positioned where the stock ones are!! I measured them over and over!!

If they are off just a bit, very little, about 0.10mm-0.20mm, would it affect when trying to use the timing gun??

If you guys can give me as much info as possible so I can understand, and feel reassured!

Thank you!!!

Have you ever used a timing light? The mark tends to jump around a few mm anyway. I'm sure you have it close enough.

+1

...and the timing specs call out 13° ± 2°

Not sure on price yet, since I will also be including the S/S sleeve.

What would be a reasonable price??

Question on Speedi sleeves for Crank. pulley.

I have been done with the billet crankshaft pulley. These will require sleeves on them so they will not wear out and leak! The speedi sleeve that I found for it is # 99169.

I wanted to know something, I emailed SKF few times, but they are not responding, and they are over seas, so can't call. The shaft diameter on the billet pulleys will be 42mm. The specs on the 99169 sleeve write, min. 41.83mm max.42.01. Meaning the sleeve will fit between those numbers?? If I make the shaft on the billet pulleys 41.90 it will fit not problem??

Thank you!

A press fit is normally 0.002" to 0.004". You may have problems if the tolerance on the standard parts is to wide.

Huh? I'm confused.

If you go to their webpage, it shows all the dimensions. http://www.skfmarcomms.co.uk/focus/images/Speedi-Sleeve.pdf

Page 10, last one # 99169

It writes, Shaft diameter range d1 Min. 41.84mm Max. 42.00mm What does that mean? Does it mean that it will fit the pulley shaft anywhere between 41.84mm to 42.00mm?? I know all these have to be press fit and come with the tool.

For example, if the shaft on the pulley is really 41.90mm or even 41.87mm or 41.96 it will fit. If it is greater than 42.00mm for example 42.70mm it will not fit??

Is that what they mean?

Does you pulley have the shaft machined in it where the seal contacts? Do you have a photo?

I just have these designed in the CNC program. Thats why I want to know, what exact size the shaft should be, and not to exceed those numbers.

Measure the DIA of the OE pulley in a clean area (Non-seal run) This is the number you should maintain. The sleeve is guaranteed to fit. The Sleeve is very thin with precision ground seal surface. There is a slight amount of metal stretching as it is pressed or driven in place. You can only go so far though. Stay within the nominal tolerance range and you will be fine.

FWIW: The cheapest I've ever bought the 69199 sleeve for was $22.00 through a local bearing supply house. That was 10 year ago. I'm sure they've gone up since then.
