View Full Version : Heat & A/C need help installing hi-pressure switch and release

Hi, folks...

I finally got around to replacing my evaporator last weekend, and before I vacuum out and re-charge the system I would like to install the high-pressure cutout switch and the high-pressure release valve, both of which came with the evaporator kit I bought from DMC Midwest. The only problem is that my car has the old-style system which included neither of these components, so I have no point of reference on where or how to install these two things.

Any help would be appreciated... help including diagrams, illustrations, or pictures particularly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Does this help? Not from dmcmw but hopefully still relevant.

Thanks! Although I have that black thing from John Hervey (it came with the hose) I do not have that right-angle adaptor. Where did that come from? It looks like it would certainly make the job easier, since that hose is pretty short.

How is the high pressure switch wired? Series or parallel with the low pressure switch?

Thanks again,
Farrar

High pressure switch is in series with the low pressure. That way if the system gets too high, it can open the circuit and stop the compressor.

The switches are wired in series, so either can cut off the compressor when necessary. So you have that black thing with the 4 ports (in, out, hi-switch, hi-relief) but no right angle adaptor?

Is it possible you have this instead?

If you have the latter, that screws in directly to the output (bottom port) of the condenser on the front of the car. If your car was not originally equipped with it, you'll also need this harness extension...

If you indeed have exactly what Andy posted, you need the right angle adapter, there is no way around it. It screws into the Evaporator, and a special shortened condenser hose screws into the right angle.

Also, here is the full reference picture for the assembly John sells...

Thanks, guys!

The hose came with the hub installed but no right-angle connector. I do not have that adaptor block as shown from the DMC website.

Looks like I will have to go parts shopping before I can finish the job!

Thanks again,

I had the aluminum block Jim posted a pic of. I removed it from the condenser and screwed the other end of the high pressure hub hose directory into the condenser. I could have left the block on and screwed the hose to the block but there are multiple leakage points there so I took the block off. Much more clean and it all fits.

My new goal is to get AC in the Mustang before Farrar gets his Delorean AC working again.

Just eat hot peppers while driving your Falcon. The evaporating sweat will keep you cool.

Here's what I ended up doing: using Hervey's "hub" in the stock DMC location. All I did was simply move it to the opposite end of the hose from where it was originally installed when I got it.

As you can see, the sight glass is facing the wrong way, but I didn't want those electrical terminals facing the front of the car.

Maybe not the best solution, but it should work. Time will tell. I am still chasing down a leak, or so it seems at the moment.
