Just a real quick one - all the vendors' CV boot kits come with that little packet of blue grease. Is that really all the grease you need for 1 joint, or should there be more?
If there should be more than that, is the blue stuff in the packet compatible with the grey CV moly grease that comes in tubes?

One pack per joint should be all you need.

Dave is wrong. It is two per axle boot.

OK, so if that's the case, back to my other question... is the blue goo compatible with the grey stuff? Or should I just buy plenty of grey and discard the blue? The reason I asked is because the last time I packed a joint, the one packet didn't seem like very much to me. I ended up using a whole lot of grey instead as I didn't seal the clamps well enough and lost most of the grease.

Blue or nothing.

Blue or nothing.
Hm. So where can one find the blue stuff? I tried last time and only found this stuff, which one of my joints is packed with right now.

Too much grease and it will just leak out. You do not fill the boot like a ball joint, till it balloons. All you need is a nice coat of grease on all of the moving parts of the C/V joint. More is not better, but it can't hurt except leak. Grease that is not on or between the metal parts does nothing. Filling the boot up won't keep water out. There is a reason you get a measured amount of grease with each boot.

My kits only came with one of these packs per boot, labelled at 3.5oz. So should I seek out more?12018

who did you get the kits from? We install two per axle boot. One in the boot and the other inside the joint.

I did this job not too many months ago. If I remember correctly, I got the boots, clamps, and grease for all four joints from Hervey. I believe it came with one packet of grease per boot and I had more than enough.

I ended up using 1.5 packets of grease per boot (I had 3 packets) which was enough to do 2 of the 3 joints I was doing, and I after speaking with Josh directly and getting his blessing on the Sta-Lube CV grease, I used a tube and a half of that on the other boot. All 4 joints are now rebuilt and ready to roll!
So what is the consensus for the amount of grease to put in a joint? David says 3.5oz, Jon says 6oz, and Josh says 7oz? I was looking on Porsche and VW forums and most people are saying 3 to 4oz.
Hoping to do my axles this weekend.

Enough to pack the moving parts solid with grease, but don't put any in the boot.
