What adhesives have folks had success with for attaching the outer door seals on the Delorean? I'm trying to use some black 3M adhesive from the local car parts place (3M™ Plastic and Emblem Adhesive 03601 ). While it seems to harden and 'take' eventually, it starts out slippery rather that tacky which obviously makes placement of a single rubber strip bend around in various contortions rather difficult.

Used it many times. Works well, holds well, and it actually removes well when YOU want it to (not when it wants to).
Follow the application directions carefully though.

Sidenote...

How many times can one successfully remove and re-instal the exterior weather stripping before its knackered and needs to be replaced?

Cheers

3M Trim Adhesive (8000 series). I try to find 8008 first, but if none is available at my NAPA, I will use either 8001 or 8011.

I used quite a few tubes of the 8001 on the DeLorean Limo this past Spring and it worked quite well. Photo attached.

That depends on the condition of the seals and the previous adhesives used on it.

I installed all new outer seals in 2003 or 2004. Since then, I've removed the segment above the windshield header 3 times and reattached, all using the same 3M 8008. They are in just as good of condition as when I installed them almost 10 years ago.

If you tear it off, none. If you are careful, quite a few. If some idiot glued it to the car with RTV or some hard glue, none.

So if i adhere it with 3M 8008 it's relatively easy to remove when I want to. Would I want to go after it with a heat gun to softne first?

I'm asking because mine are shot and need replacing but I have some panel work that will need to be done eventually so I don't want to have to buy them again for a while if I can help it.

Cheers.

It depends how much you use. If you're an idiot like me (it's like Dave is psychic or something) and use way too much, you'll never get it off again in one piece. The 8008 adhesive gets pretty stiff.

Aside from the color, is there a difference between the 08001 and the 08008?

They are both "level 2" but I'm not sure if that means they are essentially the same.

Thanks......

Just don't use too much adhesive and you'll be fine.

Supposedly no, but I think the yellow is stickier. But the black looks better for weatherstrip.

Thanks Dave....

I have both so I'll use black for the black stuff, yellow for re-attaching vinyl.
