Does anyone have some reference photos they can share of the luggage rack hardware that attaches to the quarter panels?
I just received mine and was curious how to cut out the weatherstripping properly and also see how the hardware swings down when not in use.

Thanks!!

I can take some pics of mine on Wednesday for you. I won't be back near the car until then.

Here are some photos of mine, let me know if you need any more. I didn't install them, not sure which of the previous owners did, so I can't offer any tips unfortunately.

Boy, never noticed how rusty these are, hope yours look better!

Thanks alot! That helps out a bunch! Wow, those are rusty...wonder what I can do to protect mine from getting to the same result. The only thing I noticed that was starting to rust was the screws, I'm going to get some stainless ones tomorrow.

Did you get the installation instructions that have the template to drill the holes. I can post a cop if you want. You generally have to glue down the last bit of rubber striping (closest to the back window, see picture)

I have one in the box, but I've never bothered to mount the hardware. How often would you say you guys actually use it?

I've heard that if you have a passenger, it's the only way to carry one of the rear tires if one goes flat, because it won't fit under the bonnet. So that's been some motivation for me to keep it, but in reality I'd likely call for a flatbed because my spare is likely useless.

Otherwise, I've never actually used it in the two years I've had the car. I think there was a thread on the old DMC Talk where there were photos of folks attaching things like kayaks to them, so they're definitely useful and versatile if you want to use your D for that kind of thing. There was a guy with a bike rack on his at DCS, worked very well for that.

My buddy Ryan just leaves his on all the time. I don't use mine very much. I got it for those "just in case" moments.

If you really want it to hold up, get the whole thing stripped and powdercoated, and replace all the hardware with stainless. The factory paint on those racks must be the same stuff they used on the sway bar.
