The past couple months I've been researching and trying different ways to build an R/C DeLorean for myself. I finally finished the project this week and had a lot of fun working on it. It turned out very well, which got me wondering if there would be any interest in me building more to sell. The biggest hurdle is going to be price (isn't it always?). The parts to build it aren't cheap and it will take many hours to build each one. In order for it to work I'd have to ask $350 to make it worth the effort.

Here is a video of it in action:

And now for the marketing pitch....
Not many official remote controlled DeLorean cars were ever made, and of the few that were they were "toy grade" cars. That is, they were poorly built, sluggish, and small. This car fixes all of those issues. My remote controlled DeLorean is built using the 1/15 scale (14 inches long) Diamond Select time machine body and features a hobby grade R/C chassis capable of speeds up to 15 mph. This is not your typical toy grade R/C car.

Plus, since this is built on a hobby grade R/C chassis, if you drive the car a lot and wear out any parts you will be able to buy replacement parts from a number of vendors online. Try to do that with one of the toy grade time machine cars!

Features:

[*=1]Diamond Select 1/15 scale DeLorean Time Machine
[*=1]Lights and Sound Effects with Remote Triggering
[*=1]Carisma M14 hobby grade R/C car chassis
[*=1]Carisma Transmitter w/ 8 AA Batteries
[*=1]7.2 V Battery Pack
[*=1]Charger

Price: $350 (subject to change based on parts prices)

Car will come preassembled and ready to run directly out of the box. Just charge the battery and drive!

Please Note: Due to the need to source some of these parts globally and the fact that these are made to order there will be an 8-12 week lead time from when the order is placed to when it will be shipped. Unfortunately due to materials costs I am unable to carry an inventory of these cars.

Please PM me if you are interested. There are also a couple things I can do to cut down on labor costs if it is an issue, such as letting the front end of the car ride higher or not linking the lights to the steering. Those two would cut back about $50 total worth of labor.

You should get a pic or video of the RC car next to your actual car.

The DeLorean quadcopter is certainly cool, but unfortunately not. I can only guess the number of hours it must have taken to build that from scratch. Although, if we could convince Diamond select to start making light up foam time machines it just might be practical....
