Working on replacing my clutch master and slave.
The hose between the reservoir and the master is looking a bit tired. I did a little local looking but couldn't find a PTFE hose at the two parts stores I tried. I did manage to come up with a CPE hose for "power steering return" which I'm assuming is chlorinated poly ethylene and not cross braided poly ethylene. The hose appears black and has three layers - an outer rubber shield, a middle layer which appears to be a fiber reinforcing, and an inner black rubber core.*
Does this seem like an acceptable alternative?
Cheers

I'd just get the stainless line from any of the vendors. This isn't a line to mess with, you can't afford any margin for error with it.

No... Not the line between the master and slave. Already have the braided line for that. I'm talking about the short section between the reservoir and the master.

I replaced my hose and clamps between reservoir and master cylinder as well, as the old was 'sweating' and clogged with gunky crap that was in the master, but I just got DMCH replacements through MidWest - didn't want to take chances with brake fluid. For that matter I was so uncomfortable with the corrosion I even replaced the stainless braided line I already had between master and slave as well.

Seven bucks for the for-sure right part. You can't go wrong with this one...

Dont worry about NOS rubber being in poor shape, its still very good. Put a new one on myself 2 years ago as my old one was literally sweating the hydraulic fluid strait through the rubber.

The worst part about when this hose fails, is that you get to repaint a large area of the frame after you fix it.

Don't I know it... You should see the area under my slave cylinder.
I found a CPE hose that is rated for constant contact with brake fluid and it was only $1.50. I'm well aware of the replacement from Houston (believe me, I send them most of my business through Toby at DMCNW) it was just a matter of wanting to find it locally and immediately.
I'm going to check one or two other local shops and then probably end up buying the oem part for piece of mind.
Cheers.

This is interesting because when I got this hose from DMC I had the bulging and sweating issue like you have described, only like two years later. The hose I got seemed "new" and looked like fuel injection hose. I was able to find some surplus plastic lined injection hose at O'reilly that one of the clerks just gave me. I'm hoping the plastic liner will prevent the buldge in the future.

Right... The issue is chemical compatability. The preferred material is PTFE but CPE is also rated for constant contact with DOT 4 brake fluid. Anything elsse will eventually leak through.
Cheers.
