Are you looking for the early style dark gray?

Although I don't care for the Dark wheels, one thing is for sure, they do a nice job of hiding brake dust since they are about the same color as filthy wheel. Did I mention I don't care for the Dark wheels. :umm:

I thinlk silver looks better, but there is something about the dark wheels that I am attracted to. They give the car a bit of a mechanical look and it works for it. I feel the same about the stripe, I think the cars look good with or without.
I guess there is no way to make a Delorean look bad....unless you paint it.:tongue2:

Mine are the DMCH machined wheels. Not quite as bright as those. But they just look perfect for the car in my very biased opinion.

I'm a huge fan of the dark wheels and am insanely jealous of those of you who have them. If my car wasn't so far outside the cutoff period for having them, I'd consider having mine refinished in dark grey (they need refinishing anyway).

Man, who cares about the VIN cutoff? If you like the darker color get your wheels powdercoated.

1884 was the switch to silver wheels. Your car isn't that far from the cutoff. If that is what you want, then go for
it. I put a early style ashtray in my 83 just for something different. Do what makes you happy. Finding the center caps will be the bigger problem.

Mine just got powdercoated a week ago, and 559 is about as far inside of the dark gray range as you'll see with a fresh paint job. One had imperfections in the paint, so it was sent back to be redone. DPI's working on them as we speak.

Can't they just be painted to match the wheels? In all the photos I've seen of earlier wheels they look like they were painted to match wheels. Were they molded plastic or something?

Were they molded plastic or something?I believe they were, but plastic can be painted too. It's just a matter of color-matching the different kinds of paint (wheel vs. plastic, unless one paint is used for both). Not terribly hard to do I wouldn't think, just make sure to paint only the side that faces out so you avoid fitment issues. The logo can be painted with a fine paintbrush and/or stenciled/masked-off.

Thanks, those are on one of my DeLoreans, #5000. The other photo I posted of the dark wheels is not my car.

I just took mine to the shop that DMCH uses and am having them done with the darker charcoal color on the background (between splines and center dome), machined and clear coated on the splines and the rim face. The dark/shiny really will make them pop. Apparently this is what Stephen Wynn did with his too. Time to go refresh the DMC in the middle of the caps and I have the perfect SS paint to do it!
They put my bent rim up on their machine (same as Firestone's) and told me that they can repair it good as new. See this thread if you want the whole gory story: http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?4208-DAMNED-close-call&highlight=close+call
Photos of course once I get them back within a week.

+1 and perfect. The nice thing about YOUR car is that it is YOUR car. And you get to do anything with it you please. That's the beauty of it. For 9,000 cars that are very much identical to most of the population, if you have a way of making your car yours, I say go for it!!
The way I see it, there are three potential people you are trying to please by doing the stuff you do to your car and the way it looks:
1) Random car show guy
2) Fellow DeLorean owner and enthusiast
3) You
Guess which one is the only one that matters? :)
