Anyone know why the battery light would flash with the key on but engine not running? It flashes for about 20 seconds until it fades into solid red, then starts blinking again. It does this continually. I recently installed a new DMCH alternator if that helps?

Normal for that alternator. Some sort of undocumented test mode.

Got a new alternator from DMCH and I get the same blinking. Talked to James about is and he said it wasn't an issue. Now that I know it's not just me I'm convinced it's all good.

I just installed the new alternator from DMCMW and got the same blinking. It had me worried until I came on here and found this thread. So glad that this is normal and that I'm not the only one to have this happen. Thanks for posting about this a year ago!

Cool, almost worth getting just for the blinking light ;)

Mine does the same. Got the alternator from DMCMW too. Guess if the light DOESN'T blink it's time to worry!

I got the DMCMW alt as well but haven't started the car yet, does this blinking stop after a while? Did you guys connect the battery light lead into the pigtail out of the top of the alternator?

The blinking only happens when you have the key turned to turn on the light, but the car is not running. It turns of permanently (unless you have other problems) when the car is running, but will return to blinking each time that you go to start the car and the battery light is on. I don't think this will ever go away as long as you have this alternator. I connected the battery light lead into the pigtail out of the top of the alternator. I cut off the ends of each wire, crimped them together, and covered with heat shrink wrapping for good measure.

Just so that everybody knows, mine blinks now that I have a new DMCH alternator via Dave and Julee. Glad to learn that this is "normal".
