OK so I encountered an issue when I was about to bring the car back to Virginia. I had installed a new boot cover on the pump, but the old fuel pickup line kept kinking off for some reason. No matter what I did, it stopped the flow. As an emergency measure, I simply cut a short length of hose and attached the filter directly to the base of the pump. The setup worked and got me back. The question is...do I leave it as is or do I really need to get a new hose? I think the old one was just weak after 30 years. Again I never hit any issues with fuel on the drive back. Is the baffle simply to help prevent a sudden dry spell from sloshing when low? I haven't removed the old baffle from the tank at this point and I'm not really interested in the newer baffle or fuel pump options at this time.

As long as you used fuel proof hose (i.e. a chunk of the old one and not some generic water hose) it will work like that. The baffle is to stop starvation on acceleration or corners when the fuel is low. If you keep the tank relatively full you probably won't notice it.

Thats what I thought. Yea its the correct type of hose and I usually do what you mentioned so I should be ok for now. Thanks. Too bad my brakes don't want to play nice now. *sigh*
