Which way to rotate distributor to retard, advance?

Does anyone know which way I need to rotate the ignition distributor to retard the timing? I couldn't. Locate it in my service manual. Thanks

Well, I've never moved mine. But, If you have a timing light and the hold down nut at the Distributor is loose. Just start the engine and see which way the timing reacts with the movement. If the engine won't run to begin with, that's a different problem.

As viewed from the top of the cap, rotating it counter clockwise is advancing it. So, if you're standing on the driver's side reaching in, move the distributor so that the bolt moves towards the end of the slot nearest the front of the car to advance it. That said, DMC5180 is correct; use a timing light and fiddle.
