I read the following article on line and would like to do something with my car.

"The DeLorean Motor Company (Texas) has created an improved performance version of the stock engine, creating 197hp, by replacing the camshafts, heads, exhaust system and upgraded ignition components. Additionally, a supercharger package has also been introduced, with significantly greater horsepower and torque. DeLorean owners can send their car to one of the DMC locations for either option to be installed on their existing, good condition engine."

Has anyone had this work completed? If so, are you happy with this upgrade? About how much would it cost for me to have this completed?

I have driven a Stage 3 supercharged Delorean and ridden in a couple of Stage 2 cars. The Stage 3 is fun to drive, but you have to get the RPM's up to really feel the boost of the supercharger. The Stage 2 is a more ideal upgrade in my opinion.

Stage 2 costs 5500 plus labor, Stage 3 costs 11k plus labor.

Far as I know, for both Stage II and Supercharger they wont use your original engine, you have to buy a new crate motor.

Wrong - all Stage kits (1, 2,3) can be installed on your current engine at any of our shops. If it is an especially high-mile engine we will want to compression-test it first.

You probably have this confused with the fact that we can not sell the Stage 2 and 3 Kits over the counter for self-install.

Dave, why not sell the stage 2 over the counter? I'm only asking because I know Dmc California sells the cams over the counter anyway. Other vendors sell similar packages over the counter.

Just curious.

I'm running the Stage II set up, and I feel it was worth the money. The cars much more peppy, and sounds great. The super charger thing is ok, but it looks damn clunky (not at all as sexy as the Legend twin-turbo). With the amount of money they're charging for it you think they'd upgrade the fuel system too. But they don't. My ideal Delorean engine would be the Stage IIw/EFI upgrade.

DMC Houston's business decision. Mostly because it is an installation that is relatively easy to screw up. Doing it here insures that (as it leaves here at least) it is what the design was intended to be, is installed and tuned correctly, and that there are not other unsolved internal engine problems.

Stage 3 does have some fuel system upgrades, in terms of added controls on the K-Jet and added enrichment under boost. A fully-sorted EFI would limit the market (due to cost) even more than it is. Maybe someday.

Stage 2 and Stage 3 installations always include a set of new (not "cleaned") injectors just to make sure it is not hobbled by pre-existing issues, and as part of the installation the fuel system is completely diagnosed and repaired as necessary.

I have had the stage 2 in my car for over 4 years, I love the sound of it and the extra power is well worth the money.

Www.deloreanindustries.com/Shop we are the only manufacture that uses new engine internals. We do not use thirty year old rotted crate engines. We offer all of our na upgrades in kit form as well. No one else does this.

Thanks for the info Dave. My car will coming up to your shop very soon so we can discuss the engine upgrade at that time.

Is the $5500 cost plus labor pretty true? If so, do you remember how much labor ran when you upgraded yours? Thanks Chris Mays

At the end of the day I was into my swap for about $3000 (This is including the auto->manual conversion). This obviously doesn't take labor into consideration though... my time is priceless :tongue2::biggrin: I still have a LOT of parts left to sell too; both DMC and LS1 parts.

dood D: ...you're killing me.

With your setup, I would MUCH RATHER my car be down for 1+ year installing an LS1, learning as I go and understanding how it all came together and being able to work on it on my own - ESPECIALLY for that kind of money. It would be labor intensive, but after Thursday night, I can vouch for all of us with a measly 130HP at redline - it would be WELL worth the wait.

I have to say for the 2 weeks my car ran I loved the Stage II upgrade, it gave me a bit more speed (good old Auto trans) and I loved the tone of the exhaust it was damn segzy!
