View Full Version : Easiest forum question of all time! Where does the hood badge go?

I have the '83 raffle car from DCS and the hood badge is missing. Ordered an OEM from Houston. When I get it, where exactly does it go (more specific than above your driver's side headlight :evil3:) and how is it affixed? Can several people measure from the front of the hood to the bottom of the badge and then from the side of the hood to the "n" side of the badge? We will see if there is a standard!

Thanks

Jim

P.S. If any one cares the car is coming along great!

Jim,

sorry I've got an 81 so I can't help you with the badge.

Just to note that you will get more help if you post future questions in the main "General Discussion" area. The "How To" sub forum is more for methods, tips and tricks to perform routine and difficult tasks rather than ask "How do you" questions.

Interesting question. I also ordered the badge for mine, but put it where it looked right. I would imagine the factory workers had a template to attach the badges all uniformly, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. It attaches using normal emblem adhesive, just peel and stick. Remember though the adhesive is 30 years old and may not have the grip. If this is the case just pick up a roll of 3M emblem tape(you will have a 1000 uses for this anyway). The stainless must be completely clean of oils from any stainless polish. I cleaned mine with a blending pad and window cleaner and its been on for over 3 years now. Here is a pic of my emblem location, its up more than over, and I wanted to make sure the fascia didn't catch it with the bonnet open. You will have to excuse the shoes, its the only pic I have showing the emblem.

Hey Jim!

Glad to hear about the raffle car. I'm glad it went to good home!

The hood badge goes on the passenger side on the front of the hood. I had bought one at DCS in hopes that I would win the car. I have a nice momento and maybe I will use on the Delorean I will get someday.

Please post some pics! I would like to see how the raffle car is coming along. I sat in it several times before it came to you:biggrin:

The emblem goes on the Driver's side. Frankly, I removed it from my 83 (16867) because I thought it looked like a last minute add on and detracted from the beautiful lines of the hood.

Here's a sample of one.Sorry the green ruler is hard to read, but it is 2 1/2 inches from the edge.

And proof that stainless will rust, unfortunately.

Remember to follow the lines of the front and not the line of the hood, otherwise it will look crooked when viewing from a few feet away. In other words, if it's 3" from the fasica where the "D" is, then the "n" should be closer to the front fascia/hood edge.

I tend to agree on this one. I don't care for them because they create an area around the emblem where you can't polish the stainless. You can see the emblem from the driver seat and to me it looks out of place at that angle.

Of course I often remove the emblems on my daily driver cars too.

Agreed. At first I thought it looked cool but as I got more into DeLoreans it seemed to stick out like a sore thumb. Luckily the one I'm hopefully getting does not have it, just the grooved lines.

If you do take it off I wonder if it leaves a mark since it's been there so long.

Nothing you can't remove in a few minutes with a blending pad.

Unless there is some stainless steel corrosion where the mounting tape makes contact with the stainless.

This occurs more often above and below the side rub strip tape, but I have seen it on a few bonnets too.

Thanks all for the help on the hood badge question. My apologies for posting on the wrong page and thanks for helping to guide me to the correct forum link.

There wasn't a whole lot needed to be done on the raffle car. Ken and the Ohio "crew" did a phenomenal job restoring this car from 21 years of storage. However, being a bit obsessive-compulsive and having 000927 which is Concourse ready -the car is ready, its owner is not :-) -I am determined to get the raffle car to its original condition and get all original parts. Lucky enough to have obtained the driver's sun visor, shift knob, and side view mirror adjustment switch used and in really good condition (as you may or may not know, none of those three are available). In late fall it will be sent to Rob Grady for a thorough going-over and come back a show car. Barring any unforseen problems, I will bring it to Dayton. Even though it is low mileage and will be in show condition it remains my daily driver (until winter)
