My red door light us always on. I thought that it was the passenger door switch because it was loose. I took that switch out and cleaned it, then re-installed it properly. Did not fix the issue. I know that the switch works now because when I press it, the door open light on the dash gets a little dimmer.

I checked the two on the driver side, all looks good there.

Any ideas?

Do you mean the door edge lights are always on? Or the dash door adjar light is always on?

Dash door ajar light is always on, the red one in the dash.

I did not know that there are ones on the door too. I will check those.

Have you tried having all three switches pressed manually at the same time? My doors don't always "reach" the switches and I have to use spacers.

Are you dealing with an LED bulb? I know LED dome lights will dim but not shut off without a relay upgrade, maybe the dash light is the same way?

Speaking of dome lights, does that stay on too? It's on the same circuit as the door edge lights, but easier to see while testing switches.

I will try the manual pressing of the switches at the same time. The way it makes sense to me is that when the doors are open that closes the circuit and sends electricity to the light, therefore as long as the switches are slightly pressed in that breaks the circuit.

Is that correct?

Also, mine are the stock lights, all original.

That's the theory. It may take more than "slightly" - push them all the way in for a sure test. Put the dome light in the forward "automatic" position. The dash light should go out when the switches are pressed, and the dome light should go out when they are held for about 10 seconds.

Where is the dome light switch and automatic position? I don't think my car has a dome light.

There should be two dome lights, one above the mirror and the other centered over the rear window. The lenses rock back and forth. Original lenses will be automatic when rocked forward, off when flat, and always on when rocked backwards (if memory serves).

Depends if you flip the light housing or two wires flipped as to which way is auto and on.

It was actually the engine compartment switch was not closing properly. I did not even think to check that since the red door ajar light just shows the car and side door open, I figured that it was only for the drive/passenger door.

So, I disconnected the switch in the engine compartment and the door light works fine now.

Well I hate to break it to you, but there exists other problems with that circuit. The engine compartment switch should have no affect on the door ajar lights, dome lights, or door marker lights.

Mine did that to me last year, I ended up taking the binnacle off and cleaning the connections. Haven't had a problem since. It's pretty easy to remove the binnacle, takes about an hour if you take your time.
