When I take the D out after it sitting overnight, it really lags under even the lightest acceleration up to roughly 3000rpm. In the higher revs it's fine, but I clearly won't rev it too high when cold. After a few kms (or miles haha) it goes back to normal - still sluggish, but sluggish in the way it's suppose to be ;)
Any idea what this could be or is it normal?

Typically a bad warmup regulator, or something wrong in the vacuum lines and/or delay valve that connect to it. The vacuum diagram is glued to your engine cover - check to make sure that everything is hooked up as shown (3 of the connection are under the intake but can be reached as sort of a dexterity test.).

Have you checked the mixture adjustment? Very critical to have it correct since the O2 sensor has not warmed up yet and your running open loop lambda.

Good point. I don't recall it doing this before I fiddled around with the mixture. However, in order to keep it from idle hunting I needed to adjust the mixture.

I will look into the vacuum possibility as soon as I get time to get the car out.

Than your mixture is set to rich. Never adjust mixture just based on best idle. It will mess up your normal running.

If it runs OK after it warms up it is probably the CPR aka warm-up regulator. It can also be a problem with the vacuum lines for the vacuum advance.
