View Full Version : Fuel Good pressure to fuel distributor, but no fuel coming out....whats up???

So I have been trouble shooting my pump today. I thought that it was dead but when I unplugged the fuel line coming from the pump and going into the fuel distributor it has a solid stream of fuel coming out.
The weird part is that there is no fuel pressure coming out of any of the fuel hoses going to the injectors, cold start valve or anywhere else.
So what would cause the fuel to enter the fuel distributor but not be able to leave??
I am guessing that the fuel pump may not be maintaining pressure, the fuel distributor is clogged, or something else. Keep in mind that it ran fine on Thursday.
Any ideas?
Also, where is the best spot to test fuel pump pressure in this scenario?

Do you have your hoses hooked up correctly? Check here (http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100125040355/deloreantech/images/9/97/FuelHoseRoutingOnline.png)

Piston stuck inside fuel distributor?

That was it!!
Ok, now I got the car running. I just put in new injectors and new manifold O-rings. The car idles rough and wants to quit. Smells rich possibly??
How can I check to make sure all spark plugs are firing (they are new btw along with new wires)? In addition, can I adjust the mixture by ear temporarily if needed? How do I do that?

Double check that the distributor cap is on correctly and that the correct wire runs to the appropriate cylinder.
It's quite easy to get a pair switched.
When you have done that, you can take each one out individually and touch the body of the plug to the engine and you should see a spark (when the engine is running)

ok, I will try that. I am sure that they all are going to the correct cylinder, I checked that and rechecked it. Some of the boots did not slip on the distributor too easy and they wanted to pop off too, I had to play with a few of them awhile in order for them to set correctly.
Why is it that some boots go on easy and some want to shoot off? This is the stock wire set from DMCH.

The plug on the inside of the boot may be slightly higher on some than others. What I do is pull them outa bit and plug them, then push the boot in afterwards.

Yeah, thats what I did.
So does putting in new injectors typically make the engine rich?

No it should not, but if you had bad injectors and adjusted mixture to compensate for bad injectors it can cause your car to now be running rich.

Typically when your running rich your idle will be high. Run a quick test on the spark plug wires, check post 2 here (http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?5181-Engine-Miss-Under-Load-and-With-Light-Throttle-Diagnosis-Help-Request)

I did not adjust the mixture but the previous owner may have and the injectors were not that good, so I replaced them.

Can anyone tell me what this is called, in the pictures? I had to add this wire, usually the female end just attaches to a bent tab that is sticking out of the other wire. This is on the engine firewall right about the metal piece where you can check the pulsating of the distributor.
Initially I was having a hard time starting the car today when I got the fuel working, then I noticed this loose wire. The normall hookup metal piece was missing so I took some 16 guage wire and made a connector.
What is this for? Will this 16 guage wire be enough or should I get the normal hookup (looks like a 90 degree metal piece) for it?132751327613277

Ballast resistors. They drop the voltage down for the coil. If the wire is loose it will cause issues with the engine. Pull all the connectors and clean it all up good and reinstall the exact same way. The wire should be good as long as it has good contact.

Is it ok if I connected it with a 16 guage wire or does it have to be that metal bent tab?

It should be OK doesn't really matter, but can you take a closer pic of the connection you made so I can see exactly what your talking about.

Never mind just reread everything, the metal bent tab is just a connection. It doesn't really matter how it is connected what matters is it has good contact there.

Does it matter if the injector hoses go to the wrong corresponding injector # on the fuel distributor?

No that doesn't matter. Fuel should come out evenly out of each injector so if you mix a pair up it would still work the same.
