I have developed a scraping sound coming from my rear drivers side wheel. I took the wheel off and the rotor looks okay, it is still brand new as well as the pads, less than 3000 miles on them. I am worried that the rear wheel bearings might be going bad. I would think that if the bearings were going the scraping sound would be heard through out the entire tire rotation, but it is only happening at one point on the rotation. The majority of the rotor looks nice and smooth but the outer edge seems to have some grinding on it. Possibly a bad caliper?
what do you think?

A bad caliper would not cause a scraping sound. Maybe something got caught in it, a part is misaligned, the parking brake is not assembled correctly, something like that. Turn the rotor slowly till you see what and where things are scraping. A bad bearing typically makes a rumbling sound, not a scraping sound. If the pistons are not sticking there is nothing wrong with the caliper unless it was not mounted correctly.

yeah i was thinking the same thing, I was turning the rotor and it only scrapes at one point on the turn, I dont see that anything is caught in it. Weird that it just started making the sound just a couple days ago. I should have a guy just take a look at the break and see what is not lining up.

Was it parked outside in the rain? All my cars have a little scraping sound after they sit outside in the rain. It's just the rust on the rotor that makes it but it clears up in a few miles of driving.

Perhaps your rotors are a bit out of round? If so, you might feel the pedal shudder when braking.

no no rain and i was driving it today and it is pretty loud. It might be that the new rotors might have warped a bit. maybe. Then they would just need to be turned. I will go see what the guy at the garage says.

okay so, it seems that the fork on the top of the e break pads, one of the tines came out of the hole which was not letting the pads open up after I released the brake. Compounded with the fact that the rotor is warped. I don't know how it happened, but it is definitely warped. Need to find out what kind of warante the parts from DMC Huston have. The rotors are about a year old and have less than 3k miles on them. That is to say the crooked garage that I originally took the car to changed them and just didn't turn the old rotors and kept the new ones. Parts had a tendency to disappear in that garage.

Sounds like the e-brake pads were assembled upside down. It may be asking too much of DMCH to warranty parts that were not properly installed.
