View Full Version : Engine Where to get timing chain tensioner filter washers?

Does anyone know where I can get the filter/o-ring (part 102215) things that go behind the timing chain tensioners. Mine disintegrated when I removed the tensioners, and DMCH seems to be out of stock.
Alternatively, anyone know what sort of materials they're made out of, and how fine a filter screen, so that I can try making some myself?
Could I get away without a filter and just using gasket maker between the tensioner and block, or is that a stupid idea?
Thanks

They're not necessary - just reassemble without those. And, AFAIK, those are really just filters, not o-rings - I wouldn't use any sealant back there.

And since your relatively new here Jason, I'm going to second what Travis said just to confirm its good data from a good source. I rebuilt my engine in 2009 leaving these out. No problems 25k miles later. My source was Dave Swingle from DMCMW. One of the most solid sources out there.

I would also agree with BOTH Travis and Jim on this. I haven't unbolted my tensioners yet, but if I do I will probably re-assembly with out the filter washers.
However, if you decide you do want to go down that road you can source them here:

Thanks for the info.
Just for fun I ordered a couple from volvopartswebstore. I'm not sure if I'll use them or just leave them out.

They arrived.

Now that I have then, is there any reason not to use them?

When I did my rebuild, I received advice from both DMC-MW and Josh Bengston to not bother to use them. Josh pointed out that in the (unlikely) event that they tear they can cause more harm than good.

I just pulled pieces of one of those little screens out of a main bearing oil hole. That's a whole heap of Not Good.
