I am very hyped for this, but what about some real DMC-12 owners? What are your thoughts on DMC's new delorean?
It has 260 HP with a top speed of 125 mph, and it's electric! Looks like a classic D but a new interior I think. So, thoughts!😄

But at over $100,000... looks like I will never have one... :sad30:

Steve Rice has a daily commute of 70+ miles. This car would never work for him.
On another note, none of these EV cars would be able to make it to DCS under their own power.

Steve Rice wouldn't even have one at $20k. It just isn't practical.

I love the idea behind it. And if it were something with insane hp and a bit better range, it wouldn't be bad. But I'm the end, I myself just wouldn't buy one. It's nothing against DMCH, or politics, but rather the price of the batteries. You can overhaul an engine, but batteries are a consumable part, and astronomically expensive to replace. I know that those batteries will one day fail and need replacement. I just don't like the idea of a ticking financial bomb that will blow my car up into a money pit. Be it a DeLorean, a Prius, Volt, or anything else.

Yah, I think the batterie only lasts 7 years. And at about $100,000 it might be better to keep $50,000 dollars and buy a normal DMC-12.

Well, DMCs stats sheet on their website says that the battery will last 7 years...

Really.... "Batteries" are not $100,000 or $50,000... The CAR costs a lot.. but it is NOT the price of the batteries....

ah... Plug in while AT work... it will become common soon....It WORKS... Don't get me wrong... Gas is great... but for MOST people... it would work...

I meant the DMC-Ev costs $100,000 and a normal D costs about $50,000 used form DMC. But yah, I agree for the most part with you.

If...there were chargers...everywhere... But there aren't...in fact... I only know of 3 stations within 100 miles of me...and I don't work...at any of those locations...batteries...are not the answer...

Pure EV does not make any sense at this time. Between the limited range, high price and long recharge time (and limited availability and standardization of recharging stations) it is impractical for most people. Hybred IS a viable option if you can justify the expense. As gas prices rise it makes more and more sense to go hybred. Until there is a way to increase energy storage significantly and reduce recharge times pure EV are a very niche vehicle. Someone has to invent a working Mr Fusion. Then we can have 1.21 Gigawatts. With that kind of power you can do anything!

Steve Rice, Bill Robertson, and David Teitelbaum finally agree on something.
The biggest problem I see here is that once this company sell one car, that company is required by law to provide parts and support for at least seven years, the only to ways around is to close this company for good, which is not a good thing for us or buy the car back, which is the cheaper option.
I, after selling the first electric vehicle DMCHouston find out that this is not a good business (money wise), then they would be in a big problem should it be any problems with that vehicle during those seven years.
More important, this vehicle should be crash tested according to NHTSA standards, I don't believe would be willing to have his vehicle crash tested.
Now, in order to modify an vehicle in a way that it could affect the original safety standards, the company should be certified by NHTSA, DMC is not.
They can sell electric vehicles all day long, but is one of those vehicles is involved in an accident and one of the passengers is injured by some accessory that was not crash tested, then get ready for a law suit.

It's being badged as a "Kit Car" to dodge the safety requirements, at least that's my understanding of it. Also, even if they did need to comply with safety and did go through with crash testing and airbags, the car would fail. It's shape does not meet modern safety requirements, the front is too flat, hood is too low, and a few other fun things

I don't believe it can be tagged as a kit car if totaly assembled by the manufacturer, only need one dissatisfied customer to start the fire.

Maybe we should move to Kentucky and work at the Corvette factory, I've been there and the have chargers, not many but they have them.

The DMC-12 was assembled by DMCL in Ireland in the early 80s, the DMC-EV is a modified DMC-12, not manufactured by DMCH-, just modified by them =)
Keep in mind, those Shelby Cobra replicas are scratch built too!

Replicas should be branded as replica, I don't believe DMCH would like to have their New Build vehicles branded as replicas. Replicas usually sells for a lot less money as the original.

DMCH can call it whatever they want. What does it say on the Title! That is what you are buying! That is the legal description of the article for sale. It is going to say a 1981, 2, or 3 Delorean. The Bill of Sale will mention it is repowered with a different drivetrain. "New Build" has no legal status, it is a marketing/advertising term. Think back to "Fine Corinthian Leather". No such thing except in the mind of an advertising executive who thought it sounded so cool when Ricardo Montalban said it!

My understanding is that DMCH sells you a car with no drivetrain, and then you pay the EV company to install the motor/batteries, and it is titled as a kit car (their new body shells have not been crash tested, and apparently they aren't reusing VINs on these)

Would be nice if they offered a DIY Kit, but it'll probably be tough for Legal Team to allow it since you'll need a Level 2 EV Tech License to work on High Voltage System for EVs (for OEM cars anyways, which all has to do with Legal safety shit).
Do they have any more specifics on the Battery pack, Outlet Type(EVSE is new standard for Charge Ports), Battery Diagnostics/EV-CAN, and a new Instrument Cluster? The pictures on the pdf file show something that seems to be the same Meter, but would probably need to upgrade it do something more modern. But guess it depends on the VCM being used I suppose. Though it does have what appears to be similar capacity to Leaf and 6+kW On Board Charger.

The DIY kit is very simple. Find a donor car that doesnt run for less than $10k and drop it off at the place that is doing EV work for DMCH. DMCH isn't creating EV cars. DMCH is paying someone to convert existing cars and is taking credit for some of the work.
The is no reason someone can't bring their own car to the same company to have a conversion done at a reduced price.

I went to the Tesla dearer in Santa Monica with my son. They had the most polished and professional sales reps I've ever encountered. They will not quote the price of the battery pack. The reply is "In 10 years which is after the warranty expires, that battery pack technology will be much more affordable".
It's very expensive right not. Probably 20K or more. (depending on the capacity).

I rode in the test car at DMCH and loved it. If I had the money to burn, I would convert my car. Range with the additional planned batteries is more than adequate. Fast car and I mean fast. This thing will throw you back in the seat from a dead start and gets up to speed in a blink. Freaky part is the lack of noise; you really notice every little creak and groan in the car.

That's it in a nutshell. As I've said in other threads if you buy a $60,000. 81,82,or 83 or in this case a $100,000. EV converted 81, 82 or 83 DeLorean. Be prepared for a GINORMOUS financial kick in the face should you ever decide to sell it! Unless you enjoy throwing money away. In which case I'd be happy to forward you my address.

I dont' believe you can skip DMCH and go straight to that company for a conversion, they should have a signed contract to avoid that kind of issues but maybe you can find a auto zone CROSSOVER and do it YOURSELF for a fraction of that price.

I hope you are joking about the AutoZone crossover.
On a serious note, do you honestly think there is only one company in the USA that does EV conversions? Do a quick Google search and you will find plenty of other companies willing to do the same type of conversion.
Wait another three years and Goldie Wilson III will even do a hover conversion for you for only $39,999.95.

Indeed, a solar company here in Australia has converted a DeLorean as a proof of concept.

I couldn't find much in regards with an AC Synchronous Motor, EVSE Connector and CAN setup. Most I could find is a cable converter for EVSE and a very weak AC Motor(don't think it said if it was Induction or Sync).
Granted there are lots of EV Conversion kits, if there was a company that worked with Supplier Companies to make a more Universal Fit EV Conversion thats up to Safety and Reliability Standards for today's vehicles, then this company would probably bank.

This company claims they can convert a car for $25k to $30k and it will have a range of up to 100 miles.
