First off, am I correct in assuming that this is part of the Wings-A-Loft system?:

This along with a an AutoPage security system seem to work in conjunction.

while I can press and hold the "trunk-release" button (shown below):

and get the drivers side door to pop open, the locks are not engaging or dis-engaging when the lock or unlock buttons are pressed. some videos of using both the door locks internally as well as the remote and the flashing lights and angry sounds from the black box:

Other videos, showing remote operation (still uploading as I post this): http://youtu.be/30EncR4kbTo

Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

Thanks!

Ok, I know Danny installed it... you might call him... FYI there is a delay on the passenger door, you have to hold it for 2 seconds... The driver door is instant.

That is the digital door lock module replacement sold by DMCH and DPNW (toby). It replaces the factory lock module and introduces a delay into the door locks, as well as some "smarts" to back off the locks if they don't clear i.e. if one door is open.

As DMCMW Dave noted, this is a digital door lock module that replaced the original analog unit. This one is a very early example before DMCH took on the product, and was available exclusively through DPNW. When DMCH took them on, the case was initially gold in color, and eventually became the tan plastic that we have now.

This system that is installed (with Autopage controller) is NOT a Wings-A-Loft system from DPNW. As noted elsewhere, this is likely a system put together by Danny at DMC-CA. As such, any troubleshooting of system components should probably be undertaken with him.

That said, there are defined error codes that the door lock module will display if it is not happy about something. I will see if I have the earlier version of the diagnostic charts for the black case version, and send them to you. I am sure that we will find that there is a fault in the door lock system - bad solenoid, bad linkage adjustment, worn latch assembly, or something along those lines.

Apparently it helps to ensure that the power cable has not slipped off.
