Blower Fan Problem

Since I've had 6599, I've had Intermittent problems with the fan blower shutting off for a few minutes.
I spoke with Tom at DMC Florida about it and they sent me a new 30 amp circuit breaker, (To replace the old 25 amp one), and a pic of which breaker to replace. (The Left side breaker according to the pic).
Now after having the same continued problem I'm starting to wonder what is still going on?

The breaker that I replaced, (Based on the location in the picture I was sent), was a 2 wire breaker.
After doing a search on here about this, (And I can't find the thread again), Should I have replaced the 4 wire breaker.?.?

After a bit of driving research today, :) :) :), (I.E., Driving the car around until the fan shut down), I was able to ascertain that when it stopped running, the fan setting was at 4.
If I turned it to 1 or 2, the fan would come back on. Turning it back to 3 or 4, It was off.

Any help would be Appreciated.

Motor is probably on the way out and pulling too much current. An ampmeter test would tell the story.

From memory, the blower breaker is the one to the right as you look down into the compartment (toward the drivers side). It has several brown wires, the other one has Black/Orange and Brown/Slate. A crude test- when it stops blowing, BRIEFLY jump the breaker and see it it sparks and/or the motor starts to run. Did I say BRIEFLY?

My fan is a replacement blower...Siemens PM106. I don't know if they still sell them at AutoZone but you might search the web and see if it's still available. Here's a link to the website where Derek detailed the replacement of the fan. Although I have nothing to compare it to previously, this unit seems very quiet.

I had the EXACT same problem. Fan runs all day long on Speed 1 and 2, but on 3 or 4 it will quit after about a minute and after a few more minutes might come back on again if I went from 3 or 4 to 1 and then back.

It was the Circuit breaker. The relay kit I got from DMCMW has replacement Circuite Breakers in it. IIRC, the Circuit breaker with the 2 wires going to it is for the radiator fans., The Circuit breaker that has 4 wires on it (2 on each terminal - 1 set for speed 3 and another for speed 4, (Speeds 1 and 2 don't use the circuit breaker)). When the old circuit breaker fails, it breaks the circuit until it cools off again.

The replacement Circuit breakers did the trick for me! I replaced with stock amperage. From your description, I think you replaced the CB for the Radiator fans, not the blower motor.

Hi George,

Perhaps check the easy stuff first, which would be the wiring colours on the circuit breakers. These two schematics might help:

You can see on the air conditioning schematic that the wiring colours are noted. The circuit breaker going to the cooling fans is noted as being a brown/orange wire in and black/orange out. It is labelled as #20 in the fuse box schematic and is on the left (and as 40 Amp).

The wires going into the blower motor circuit breaker are brown without any orange striping, and the same coming out of that circuit breaker. It is labelled as #19 on the fuse box schematic and is shown on the right (and as 30 Amp).

Ironically, I just looked at a picture I had of my fuse box area (from March 2010) and my left and right are reversed if you compare the wiring colours. Perhaps get the colours of the wires correct, and not focus on left side or right side, and your problems might go away.

It turned out that I had indeed replaced the wrong breaker. :O (Based upon the picture that I was sent from DMC Florida), and this picture,

I had Assumed, that the breaker for the blower fan was only a 2 wire, (One in, One out), setup.

Everything is all Gooder now... :)
