Does anyone have any advice as to how to prevent the seat-backs from coming loose and hanging off the seat?
It seems to be a fairly common issue....

You're right, it's a common issue. When I replaced my seats the seat backs would not stay secured until I took the seats out and made darn sure I had the backs positioned as far into the retaining brackets as they would go, especially the top one. When the backs are pushed all the way up in position and secured they will stay on ... believe it or not!:yesss:

But to get to that target, the interior of the seat back needs to be intact.
You can make it stronger with two aluminum strips from the side to the top.
IIRC there's picture of how to do that either on this or on DMCNews technical sections.

I removed my seat backs and surprisingly, none of the judges at DCS even noticed.

That's because as a general rule, we don't touch anything on the car. If we need to see a certain functionality, we ask the owner to demonstrate it. This is also why we ask owners to be @ their cars when judging is going on.

I noticed. It was one of the more minor factors that led to your award, lol.
