She's finally home!

Well, 2861 is finally home. Still has the hot start gremlin to deal with (even after replacing the accumulator and PPR o-rings!) and now the fans don't seem to want to kick on, but at least now it's in MY garage! :woot: It will be much easier to work on with all my tools, etc. in one place.

Haven't really had a chance to do much in the way of cleaning her up, but here are a few pics:

This is the funky grille emblem that is on it (excuse the dirty grille...like I said, I haven't had time to clean it up much yet!). Based on old pics that were given to me with the car, it was added sometime after 1990, since there is no emblem on it in one of these pics. Anyone seen this one before? I have an original that I am getting ready to put on it, but I thought I'd post a pic of this one before I pulled it off.

Yea that's pretty odd. Definitely never seen that before. Does it look like a normal emblem that has been cut down or is it a different emblem all together?

No, it is a different emblem altogether. When I first saw it, I thought that perhaps it was cobbled together with three seperate letters of some kind to make an "emblem," but it's actually one piece. Very strange, and I have never seen it before. I'll check it out deeper once I pull the grille to put the original one on.

Looks great! I'd lose the emblem and put the real one on. They are available (reasonably priced too). You might want to cut the 2 Tie-wrap tales hanging below the passenger knee bolster.

I would keep the emblem. Makes the car a little different. Removing the emblem may make a mess depending on how well it is attached. Too bad you have the holes for the front license plate bracket. That I would remove but then you have the holes to fix. Try to fix up the leather. Go to Leatherique.com and get the cleaner and the rejuvinator. They also have crack repair and dye. I would plan on replacing all of the fluids and filters. Check the dates on the tires and the pressures. Make sure the lug nuts are torqued to spec. Drive it and write down all of the problems and make a list. If you do not have 2 keys get another made. Preferably by code.

Hmmm...that's a possibility. Hadn't thought of that. I really would like to change it out though; the coloring on it is a bit flaky (doesn't really show in the picture). It may be more trouble than it's worth though, because-

1. I can't get the grille off. I am hesitant to use much more tugging force than I currently am, as I fear that any more and it will rip off the fascia along with it. It's on that tight.

2. I peered in between the grill slats and I don't see any holes in which the pegs for the new emblem can go through. I can sort of see behind these letters that are on it (they appear to be glued on, and it is three seperate pieces after all...not sure what I was thinking before when I looked at it) and there don't appear to be any holes back there either. I have the new emblem and spire fixes for it, so I am assuming that the pegs are supposed to go through the grill and the fixes retain it from the back, right?

Correct - and they hold on damn well too.

The 3 peg holes for the Factory emblem are in the Raised bars of the grille. They are likely just covered by the glued on letters. The grille itself is held on with the same type of Snap fasteners as found on the battery compartment cover. Sometimes it takes a serious pull to them to let go. You just need to get something to hook behind the edge of the grille on one end and give a serious pull. It should pop loose. The said, I've heard of a rare occurrence of a grille that had been Screwed on from the backside (PO thing). In a case like that you'd have to pull the Headlight assembles out in pieces to gain access. I doubt very much that is your issue though.

There's another thread on here [link (dmctalk.org/showthread.php?5108-How-to-better-secure-your-front-grill)] that discussed various attachment methods of the grille to the fascia for better security. Very rarely a DeLorean turns up with its grille stolen (as seen here (http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?5065-Be-on-the-lookout-stolen-front-Grill-in-Atlanta)), but I've only seen one instance of this happening in recent years, as weird DeLorean trivia like that becomes less and less commonplace. (Who teaches their kids how to remove a DeLorean grille without owning one themselves?) Evidently a good yank can pull it right off in the right circumstances, so your previous owner may have secured it on using screws or similar. I would check the sides and all around for screws, even hidden, then if you can't find any, do as Dennis (one post up) said and tug it one side at a time.

Yeah, when I finally got the nerve to pull REALLY REALLY hard, this is what I found! LOTSA mice nests! I had to pull pretty hard. Actually, Ken K. pulled hard. Grab a side and give it a twisty motion to get it loose.

After that, scotch brite the little posts and lube the snaps...
