My wife called me at work on Friday and said her windshield wiper was broken in the pouring rain (with the two grand kids both crying where they pulled off the road). I quickly drove to her aid and the drivers side wiper was flopped to the side. Had to transfer the kids seats and drive them home in my car. When I looked at the car on Saturday, the white metal base that bolts on the "splined" shaft was stripped out. Ran down to the Chevy dealer and their parts dept is not open on Saturdays. Never thought Auto Zone would carry that part but they had it in stock for $26. The new part is not splined but I guess the fine splines on the shaft cut into the soft white metal when you bolt it down.

By the way, I tried to see if I could drive my car without wipers when I was going to pick them up and you really could not do it.

Next time use Rain X for emergency, no wipers needed!

If no Rain X available, you can use plain tobacco, same results as Rain X.

I agree on the Rain X. When I was young I drove a whole winter with broken wipers because I couldn't afford to fix them.

From the thread title, I felt for sure that Steve had been successful in getting the D listed in the AZ system.

I have never tried RainX though I think the PO of my DD applied it. How long does a windshield application last when you are using wipers as well?

No too long, maybe about a week or so. Again, rubbing tobacco also helps, a little more expensive but if on the road it is good to know this little trick.

I use RAIN-X washer fluid (the orange stuff) available at Wal-mart. Not quite as good as the full wipe-on Rain-X treatment, but it does make a difference. I probably use the Window washer once a week on my DD and it keeps the glass tuned up.
