DMC CA Moving?

So it looks like DMC CA is going to be shutting down its Garden Grove building and moving locations. Huntington Beach looks like the most likely location, according to Danny Botkin. I'm not sure of the backstory behind the move. Does anyone have any insight? I guess I could've asked more questions. I've always had great service experience with Danny and Nancy but I've never really worked with Don. Hopefully all's well.

Perhaps the opportunity to Purchase a Building or Lower building lease rent is the reason. However it could be the owner of the building they currently occupy has other plans for its use and the current Lease is coming to an end soon.

When i was there i talked to Stephen the owner of DMC and he was really excited as was everyone in the shop, because it is a bigger facility, more lift bays, bigger stock wearhouse and will have a showroom in the front. I am excited for them. Delorean is making a comeback. Now if i can just keep people from hitting my car. Got into another little bump in a parking lot because people dont look in their mirrors. Have to now get the right front fender replaced, and he had no insurance. Merry Christmas to me. :(

Sorry to here this. Your Insurance company will likely go after the uninsured person, if you make claim that is. Is it just the fender? or Fascia too? You might want to start a new thread for follow ups to this topic.

Na no need for a new thread. Just got word from my insurance they are covering the repairs and will go after the other person. So it all works out. No facia damage, though it was already hit from a hit and run this past summer, which i am on the fence about either getting a nos facia or one of the new fiberglass ones. The prices are about the same for everything.
But back to the thread here, I am very excited to see the new shop. I am at the one in garden grove a lot as it is. Was a little sad we werent able to do the christmas parade this year. Was all ready to decorate the car with garland and lights. :) Next year hopefully.

I've never been to DMC CA, but from the scores of pictures I've seen over the years, they are pretty hemmed into their location. There is such limited space that some customer cars appear to get parked out on the street. Looks like they just pile parts wherever they find space (inside or outside), too. My guess is they've simply gotten to the point where it's inefficient to the point of being unfeasible to keep their current space.

Like others have mentioned, all the DMC satellite facilities are also growing & going upscale. From what I've seen, DMC CA is in a fairly dowdy older building in a fairly dowdy older industrial area. I wouldn't doubt that the mothership (DMC Houston) has nudged them to upgrade, especially since Southern California is such an enormous & important car-centered market.

It's also possible that they're moving to be closer to the owner Don's home (I have no idea where he lives; this is just a theory). I know LA commutes are pretty brutal. These are just a couple of guesses, though... and the truth is perhaps a combination of all of the above.

Seems no one brought up this possibility yet: it may be possible that DMCCA had their eye on a particular property that they knew would become available soon, and it only now became available. Perhaps they had made a deal on the property and couldn't back out for whatever reason. DPI had this happen recently, although in that case it was more expansion rather than relocation.

I know Don and Danny, and they will do better with a bigger place and more parts... It will not be closer to Dons home, but a 20 min longer drive each day is not that bad... There are a lot of places in Huntington Beach... I have Camaros and Classic Industries is there, as well as other places for GTO's and 56 Chevy's, Pick-Up Trucks and such.... I love my Delorean, I can drive it anywhere, and it is all because of Danny and Don.

Don is SOOOOOO nice, he drove my car to and from his house, just to find possible problems, and he did, and fixed them, so I got a great car I can depend on. This is so above and beyond most people, who only work their 40 hours and go home... Best Wishes to them to grow and get bigger, if they were not here, I would have not bought a Delorean.
