Don Gowler, long time DeLorean Owner and Enthusiast has passed away.

He purchased his 1st brand new 1982 DeLorean in 1983 and went on to buy a 1983 model and a flawless 1981 to round out his collection by 1994. He became the Chapter 7 President of the DOA from 1987 until he split to form the DeLorean Midwest Connection in 1993. He remained President of the Midwest Connection until his retirement in 2004.

Don was a wonderful DeLorean historian and gentleman who shaped and shared so much of who the DeLorean Community is today. If it weren't for him, who knows if Dave and I would ever have become as involved as we are.

He will be sorely missed.

Our prayers are with his daughters as they come to grips with the loss of their Dad.

Very sorry to hear this. Thoughts and prayers are with his family. His knowledge and expertise with the car will be sorely missed. Directly or indirectly, it sounds like we owe a lot to him. That level of experience acquired over 30+ years simply isn't replaced.

I remember meeting him at DCS2000 in Cleveland. I think I remember him showing that flawless 81 in concours competition

Don was a very good guy, and used to pass through Phoenix frequently in mid-late 90s as I was running the DML. He always found time to get a drink or dinner when he was in town and had lots of great stories...sad to hear of his passing, but thanks for posting, Julee.

Don Gowler had a great head of silver gray hair and was also known locally within the DeLorean Midwest Connection as "The Silver Fox".

At one point Don's health made it necessary for him to sell his cars, including his beautiful concourse car. My son Peter and I actually purchased, and later sold, both of Don's cars. On the day we picked them up I could see he was going to miss driving them so I gave him back the keys to one of the cars and told him to take a last drive. Boy, did he! It was very short - just a few minutes around the neighborhood - but very spirited. It was surprising, but fun to see. (Nicely done, Don.)

Later, as Peter and I went over the cars, checking them out and fixing them up where necessary, the passion he had for them and the TLC he lavished on them was obvious. We did not have much to fix.

So complete was his love of all things DeLorean, that his home was decorated in DeLorean gray both inside and out. (Stainless appliances in the kitchen, OF COURSE!) He acquired an impressive collection of memorabilia, too. He boosted the man, the car, and the hobby at every opportunity.

Now Don doesn't need any roads, but I'd just like to say "Thanks Don, for all of your contributions to the DeLorean community!"
