I'm attempting to remove the support bracket apparatus that holds the rear harness against the back of the engine bay on the driver's side, as it is rusty and needs a repaint.
The only problem is I cannot slide it off the "support bar" (#5 in the diagram below) due to a "lock ring" (#6 in the diagram). This is very "newb" of me, but I'm not a technical guy. What's the best way to remove this without breaking something?

The Lock Ring is #6, support bar #5: http://store.delorean.com/c-347-3-7-0-rear-harness.aspx

Just use a pair of side cutters on it and twist. It will break off easily. Replaces are available at your local hardware store.

I dealt with the very same thing a few months ago. Like Josh said, you just kinda wiggle and pull it off. I thought getting it back on was even harder. If you end up disconnecting the wires from the ballast resistor (the silver thing next to the engine compartment light switch), make sure you take a picture and put all of the wires back on exactly how you found them. If you don't you'll end up frying it. Overall, a very easy job!

If the underbody mounted brackets are attached properly you don't need the retaining washer. The rod/bar is self captivated.

Well, too late for that. We'll see how it goes in the spring when I put the battery back in and go to start it up....
