I have a question about the finish of the front and rear fascias. I've seen a number of these that have been refinished to a "glossy" surface especially at the Orlando meeting. I have a 1981 model and the fascias appear to have never been refinished. In fact the current finish appears to closely match the color of the stainless and the surface is a "flat" finish, some might say a dull finish, which seems to complement the stainless panels.
My question is, when new, were the fascias a glossy finish? My initial thought is to keep the finish as is but I don't want to see a deterioration of the surface if left untreated.

Early cars had a glossy finish on the fascias, later cars had a matte finish.

Really? Well 'ya learn something everyday. I thought they were all a semi-flat finish (which I prefer). Mine was redone in a glossy finish by a PO, but eventually I'd like to change it.

Here is an early tech bulletin that mentions glossy:

Here is the later revised formula:

Thanks for all the comments, I do prefer the matte finish, just was not sure it was a stock finish.
