Port of Newark storage

Greetings
Back in the early 80's maybe between 83 to 85 or so, I remember seeing hundreds of Delorans stored at port Newark, just before the Goethals Bridge going into Staten Island. It was the huge auto storage area seen from the Jersey side of the approach to the bridge, what ws the purpose of this storage, and what became of the vehicles , My guess is it had something to do with Consolidated.

Could be, all I remember was I saw them from an elevated highway, coming off the Goethals Bridge into Jersey, on the Jersey side. It was definitly Port Newark, Doremus Ave neighborhood, I always assumed this is where the cars were imported, but seeing on the East Coast cars were shipped to Wilmington, DE my question was posted, Seeing it wasnt a QAC could it have been a storage area from where the cars were trucked after gouing thru the QAC?

Probably, what was it used for with the DMC, part of Consolidated's operation??

When the cars came in on the ships they were placed one by one into the nearby lots till they could be loaded onto car carriers to be shipped to Bridgewater, NJ where the East Coast QAC was located. Today they still use those yards till the cars are delivered directly to local dealerships. Those yards are located in Port Newark next to the docks, not far from the airport. When you use the New Jersey Turnpike extension (locals call it the ABC extension, the exits are lettered) from the Holland Tunnel to exit 14 (Newark) you drive right over those yards. The QAC was located right off Route 287 in Bridgewater. You could see all of the Deloreans from the highway. Today there is an office building on the site.

Thanks Dave, I remember seeing those cars back in my college days, when I lived up in Bergen County. I see you are up in Northern N.J. where? Back in the mid 80's my buddy was a security guard for Persitge Motors up in Paramus, they built a brand new showroom and were going to tear down the old one, well the owner tells us we can take anything from the old showroom we want. I snagged 2 full size Delorean dealership shigns alog with a bunch of other dealer items. When I left Jersey for good in 88 I gave the stuff away, now I wish I didndt.

This was my thought exactly. The Lots below the extension are still used as import/export lots for vehicles right up until today. Back in the 90's alot of euro-spec american made cars like corvettes and fords were visible from the street if you drove past those lots on Doremeus ave headed over towards routes 1&9.

I am in Old Tappan, which is on the northern border with New York State (next to Tappan, NY). I pass through Newark once a week and also am on -287 regularly. I also went through Prestige and got some parts and tools. I cleaned out several dealer's parts inventory and special tools in the area. In most cases what I found was left after others had picked through and gotten most of it. Mostly by P J Grady! That was right before most dealers had computers so the old inventory was for the most part written off because they didn't want to bother entering it so they sold it off cheap. They figured they weren't going to use it anymore so it was worthless to them.
