100k DeLoreans

I have been trying to keep track of converted/modified DeLoreans for a while now. Things like BTTF conversions, engine swaps, painted cars, RHD, wrecked, tan interiors, all of Rich W.’s cars, and the like.

Now, I’m interested in knowing how many cars may have over 100k miles on them. I think Ian Y.’s cross-country trip got me interested (22k miles in a few months). So, does anybody on here have a car with more than 100k miles on it and care to reveal that? Or know the VIN of anyone else’s car that does?

Would anyone else be interested in knowing this kind of statistic?

I'll be fascinated to see the replies. The very great majority of owners and potential owners think that if the car has a lot of miles on it, it can't be any good. Well, I've got 140,000 on 16867 and you can get in to it, turn the key and drive coast to coast without worry. Recently, I hopped into it in Colorado and drove it to North Carolina (1650 miles) in a shade over two days and never worried. I could have done it faster, but at my age, that just doesn't make sense. The car has been driven in 42 states and 3 Canadian provinces. What a joy to drive.

FWIW, I know of several others who have in excess of 100,000 miles on their cars, but they may or may not be willing to say so.

My odometer is stuck (angle drive broken) on 96,427 but I know it's over 100,000. My engine was replaced in the late 90s so the car has 100K+ but the engine doesn't. My car is overall pretty good just needs the A/C recharged and some cosmetic stuff I am slowly working on. Hope this helps :smile:

16432 had roughly 90k on the clock when I got her... she now has just over 140k and is running great. (knock on wood)

It's a fairly simple car, and while the engine isn't particularly high-performance, it makes up for it in longevity. If it's driven normally and fairly regularly, and well maintained, the DeLorean should be just fine with over 100k.

I put about 175,000 miles on 16647, my first Delorean. Then I put over 370,000 miles on 4915 my present D.
4915 has apparently taken up permanent residence at DPI where I'm spending upwards of $42K for a
total refurbishment. When she comes home I will refer to her as a zero mile car and start over.
The interior is probably a 9 out of 10 and the stainless is near perfect. Every thing else will be new
or refurbished. :yesss:

My car has 177K miles.

I recently finished a self installed DPI SPEC 2 upgrade and engine rebuild, so there are only a few hundred miles on the rebuilt engine. I had a small head gasket leak, and figured if I'm going to be taking things that far apart I may as well go for the performance upgrade. Its the original block, crankshaft, and fuel system, but most of the rest of the engine is new or refurbished.

But otherwise the car has been in regular use since I bought it in '94 with something like 28K miles on it. It's had some body and frame work, but no major restoration.

It most definitely is nothing short of pulling the doors. After that kind of millage the frame needed some serious reworking. All welded and straightened out now! You and Shep(559) can argue who has the prettier car. :) He was here today and couldn't stop smiling! Soon to be you here as well!

BTW I'm using your exhaust display stand you made. I love that thing!

~128k miles. Performed an engine rebuild into a homebuilt Stage II+ around 100k. Turn key and drive across country. Thats what I did in June for the drive down to Orlando. 3200+ miles.

What's the definition of "engine rebuild"? I've had a bunch of work done to 16432's engine... But don't know if it should be considered rebuilt.

Great to see cars with so high mileages. My car has only 62000 miles, but the angle drive was brokan for about 10 years, so it is surely more. I estimate it to be around 80000 miles. No major restoration had happened and the engine is as good as new.

new pistons and rings
new cylinder liners
all new gaskets
machined crankshaft
refinished heads
new chain tensioners
new road and main bearings

Anything less then this doesn't count.

As stated earlier, 16432 has about 140k on the clock. I'm hoping to get her over 200k before needing a rebuild. (Just to see if I can do it.)

Okay, thanks to everyone for their input.

So far, we have six cars that have come forward as having broken the 100k mile hurdle. So I placed a new link on our statitics page to view the list of those over 100k.

Looks like 4915 takes the prize at 370k miles. Buddy, if I knew ya, I'd buy you a beer. If any one makes of 500k, I'll buy them TWO beers (and those who know how cheap I am will testify THAT's saying something)!

Well, other than the configuration that came from the factory which is kept separately (like transmission, interior, hood), the whole statistics thing is based on the honor system. If you tell us that you upgraded your PRV to a Stage II, or your 5-speed is now an auto, or you painted it red, we have no reason to not believe you. And probably most people on here are the real-deal anyway and would have no motive for providing false information. In addition, the statistics we keep are harmless anyway, and server no tangible value. They are just interesting to know.

So I'd say yes, you can tell us about cars you know of that have high mileage, RHD, have been painted, or wrecked or have an engine swap, etc.

And as I've said before, THANK YOU, to those that take the time to provided this interesting information!

Oliver's Team Fox BTTF Delorean (VIN 10694) has nearly 400k miles on the body and frame.

1st engine had around 150k miles before it overheated (due to a cooling issue).

2nd engine has well over that now.:nana2:

I know Bryan Pearce has well over 100K miles on his DeLorean, and possibly over 100K on his original prototype Pearce Design stainless steel frame.

Bryan and family recently moved from the Chicago area to the Northwoods of WI, and I know Bryan continues to rack up the miles on his DeLorean.

I couldn't tell you. My odo is stuck at 69,333 km. God only knows how many years it's been stuck like that, as I've only have it 3 months. But I CAN tell you I've added at least 6,000 Km since I got it :D

Mileage is a non issue with me. If you love driving it 75k a year rain snow or shine, then it's doing it's job. If it makes you happy to sit in a garage and enjoy a frame wax and only go out on sunny Sundays, then it's doing it's job. If it sits in front of your business rotting away and that makes you happy, then it's doing it's job.

Bottom line, if the car makes you happy then it's doing it's job no matter how much or little it gets driven.

Bill Miller in OH had a D with 250k on it. It was an automatic car and had never been apart. Ken and Dave worked on it occasionally.
