View Full Version : What does everyone think of the 2014 Corvette?

Fully redesigned Corvettes don't come around very often, what do y'all think of the new C7? I've gotta admit, I was nervous from the spy shots & artist renderings that the thing would be freaking hideous. But the car is actually quite sharp looking, and seems to have thoroughly addressed the shortcomings the C6 was so well known for (mainly: cheap finish materials). It sounds like the C7 is going to be world class in every sense, and will usher in a new era in American sports cars.

Corvette over the last 15 years has done a great job of taking other cars design cues and copying them. I think the car looks nice but I see a lot of other cars in it.

I'm not sure if this applies to the 2014 model year, but when I think about the Corvette my thoughts immediately go to Top Gear(UK): "LEAF SPRINGS!!"

Are you sure there is a new Corvette released? I have been reading all the automotive websites today, and haven't seen it mentioned.
Psych.
Haven't seen any details on pricing though plenty of column inches on the interior not looking like it was borrowed from an Little Tikes Club Car.
I like the rear view best (yes, that's what she said James). The front lights are too Ferrari like for me.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the Jeremy Clarkson rear fascia thumb test.

I can't argue with you there. Oddly enough, the car which the C7 most closely apes is the Fisker Karma... minus the awkward proportions.

I was going to post a similar thread. I really like it. It's the first corvette in years I have liked.

I am a fan. I certainly want more specifics but I'm a fan. I'm planning to go to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this weekend to see it myself so hopefully I wont be disappointed. :D

As far as looks, I think it's pretty good. The side profile strongly resembles the Ferrari 599 and F12, but is still very "Corvette". The only thing I'm not too sure about is the Camaro rear.

It's definitely cool looking.
I was really hoping they would go more retro looking Like this Karls kustom (63 body) built on C6 platform.

I saw one of these at the Woodward Dream cruise in 2011. I was in awe at how beautiful it was. Being it was Detroit I actually thought I was seeing the latest New design until I saw the Karls Kustom badge on it.

I don't really care for the new vette. I thought since the last one looked like the viper and now this one like a Ferrari with the ugly camaro ass end not very cool. My fav was the split window I think 63. Now that is a vette!!!:headbang:
With only some preliminary scans of the data and the Chevy site photos, ranked on scale of 1-5
Exterior styling: 2 or 3 (very low design purity, trying to do way too much with extra creases all over)
Interior styling: 4 (big improvement)
Engineering: 4 (still good value for the money, most highly-developed pushrod V8 ever)
Performance: 5 or TBD
Off-the-cuff notes:
- Some of the non-professional photos from the Detroit Auto show make this car look hideous. It can't be THAT bad.
- Here is one car that NEEDS the soon-to-be-mandated reverse camera. It is one big blind spot back there.
- Anybody see Chevy trying to make up for something vs Lexus LFA's triple-center exhausts with those quads lined up in back?

I do like it, even though the designers borrowed from many cars. But that is the problem, many car designs are are stolen from one another. Just look at the Aston Martin and the new Ford Fusion.

I got a chance to drive a C6 at a GM Track Day a few years ago and all I can say was WOW! Handling, power and comfort all in one. If this Vett is anything like the C6, I'm sure it'll be as great, if not better.

Hey, look! An "upscale" Camaro!
Ugly...... so ugly.
Man, I didn't think it could go any more downhill, but man, UGH.....
As a DeLorean owner and amongst a group of DeLorean owners, I think most can understand when I say that : "I would rather have a beautiful exterior and a slow but reliable engine than something hideous that can go 0-60 in 3 seconds."
The C7 pretty much summed that up.

I work at a Chevrolet dealership that has a heavy vette following and all these owners are goin bananas over the new vette. Its a little wildly cut but I think its going to look better in person and I know the interior is going to be a higher quailty than the last few years and its going to be scary fast. I heard we are getting them in around August.

It just looks like a facelifted C6, woopty doo. I was really hoping they would go in a new direction with it. But the new engine will be pretty awesome however, the name is kinda disapointing, LT1? like that POS engine from the 90's? That is going to create alot of confusion at AutoZone in 20 years, They seriously couldn't think of 2 different letters and a number in a row to make a new name? How about the LZ1?

I think it looks great minus the camaro tail lights. Im interested to see the Z06 and the ZR1. I was a little put off by the LT1 motor, being a fan of the LS series.

It does. Are you actually familiar with Corvette leaf springs? They are NOT the pick-up truck/pram leaf springs associated with solid axles that Top Gear likes to insinuate that they are.
There are tremendous advantages to the Corvette's implementation of leaf springs:
Very lightweight, and that weight is unsprung.
Low center of gravity.
Low rate of wear.
The simple fact of the matter is that Corvettes are performance monsters on both street and track, particularly more so when value is considered.

I agree to an extent, I think that naming the engine LT1 is kind of funky. But this new engine has a lot of cool things about it, that while not new at all, ARE new for a Corvette. Direct fuel injection, variable valve timing, cylinder deactivation.
Too bad the car is just about one of the ugliest I've ever seen.

Not that anyone doubts the obvious borrowed design cues, but I thought I'd also show something that's been bothering me for years.

Gee, I wonder where the Corvette designers got the idea? Note the very similar molded thing inside, shaped around 3 lights.

I think you get a better Idea of of the looks of the car with this video rather then just the pictures. I love the new looks. The only thing that looks odd to me are the exhaust. I don't like how all 4 tailpipes line up like that. I think maybe if there was a space between and have 2 on each side it would look better. Not a big gap, maybe a a foot size gap. Other then that love the car,and I love how they keep talking about the interior which is truly an upgrade.
I wonder if there will be a ZR1 version!!?
Edit:Just noticed from the video it has a 7 speed stick...Nice.
