Know that feeling? That , "could have sworn i left it right there", "it was here 5 minutes ago," or "how the hell did i loose something that large"? feeling?

Well I've had that for a week. Somehow, and I have NO idea how, I lost my CSV from 2510. It never left the garage. I would not have taken it to the sandblaster given it's function, nor the powder coater given I never cleaned it up. I even took inventory of the parts that left the garage. I have NO idea where this thing went. My shop isnt even that large.

I just had to complain because it's driving me nucking futs!

What have you inexplicably lost?!

Welcome to 30....when 40 comes you will look back on this moment and think "man I was actually complaining about misplacing crap?"

Haha. Thanks mike! Ten more semi cognizant years!

Definitely a problem with me. I subscribe to keeping all my crap in one pile... as much as possible. I know I can't remember everything from place to place, so I have to carry a backpack. If bags were acceptable for males, I'd carry that, but there's not anything I'm aware of that passes a man or bad taste test. Even messenger bags are somewhat borderline. When I finally settle in a house, I intend to have a lock box by the front door to dump the contents of my pockets right after I pass the threshold. Losing keys and stuff like that is infuriating.

I even have a drawer called "the scissor drawer." Nothing goes into the scissor drawer but the scissors. There's a fair amount of time spent keeping up with myself so I know where my crap is. And that I'm sure that I turned the stove off this morning, and locked the door.

I know what you mean Dave. Frustrating not being able to find something and not for the life of you can you think of where it is.

I did this with something when I moved houses back in late 2010. It was the 20 fittings you need for a set of shelving. The kind where you slide these collars over the notches, one on each of the four posts per shelf, and they hold each of the five shelves up. In the last two plus years I cannot seem to find that bag of fittings. The worst part is the five shelves and four posts are lying off to the side, unable to be assembled, reminding me of those lost fittings. Ugh!! haha

When you find them though, that feeling is pretty awesome. Like finding a $20 bill in an old jacket. If you've ever read any of the "Book of Awesome" titles, the author talks about this same thing :)

Memory is the second thing to go.

But you can't remember the first....

I have learned that the fastest way to find an item is to buy a replacement, and without fail, you will find the original the following day.

I don't remember if I miss my memory. It is a weird feeling when you do start to realize that you are indeed not able to remember everything you know you should.

Actually, my wife and I joke about it all the time. I can remember details of meals eaten 25 years ago but forget little everyday things. I can still remember the first telephone number we ever had in the mid '60's, but I couldn't tell you my passport #, driver's license # or CC # (all of which I've memorized on different occasions) to save my life.

I lost an extra "o" recently, and couldn't find it for the life of me. Turns out it's right there in the thread title. :D

Seriously though, this happens to me a lot - more than it should. Although I've noticed that during higher stress periods of my life it happens a lot more. Currently it doesn't happen much, although I lost my hammer a few days ago and it's driving me nuts not knowing where it is, so it still DOES happen.

Wait, you only have 1 hammer?

As with this thread, I am always setting down/misplacing hammers and measuring tapes, so I have at least 4 of each.

Wait, you only have 1 hammer?

I have several hammers, but only one of each type. The one I lost was my regular nail hammer. :(

Well there's your problem. You need another one

I have 4 nail/claw hammers that I use most of the time for general destruction, plus the "specialty" ones - framing, rubber, 3lb, etc.

Alternatively, if I tidied up after myself and had a "place for everything" I would save a fortune in time and money.

Although I've noticed that during higher stress periods of my life it happens a lot more.

I think this part is key. Over the last few years of various things going on in my life, I have learned that a few simple things can have a huge impact on almost all facets of your life.

Stress is arguably the biggest one. A close second would be any combination of how much rest you are getting, how well you are eating, keeping hydrated/drinking lots of water, and getting some exercise. Not saying it fixes everything, but often I find when I am not thinking well, can't remember stuff, feel yucky or stiff or whatever, if you go back to basics with these eat, sleep, drink, exercise, relax things, it can get better quick.

Often just going for a walk in the fresh air can make a big difference. That's my experience anyway.

I've got a long-term lost item. Last February (March?) I bought myself an amp for my daily driver. I had already upgraded the radio, so I used RCA cables to plug it in. Never got it to work (I'm betting having some speakers still on the stock wiring was screwing it up), but I kept it in the trunk anyways. Two or three months ago, I finally took it out and put it back in the box, with all the wiring I used in a different box. The plan is to put it in my DeLorean, keeping the stock radio by using a speaker-level input harness. It has a plug for the harness, but no harness. For two or three weeks now, I've been convinced that mine never came with one, and all my attempts to find one online have failed. Evidently they don't sell it as an accessory anymore...

Today I finally googled for pictures of the amp, and found some that clearly showed the harness. I recognized the harness... so evidently it did come with the amp. I looked in the boxes I stored the amp stuff in, and everything else was there, but no harness. I looked in the radio box that I have, and it wasn't there either. I looked in a "miscellaneous" box I have laying around, and still no dice. I looked around in various boxes, and I still can't find the damn thing. I already looked in my car for it, but couldn't find it. So now I have to look again, and will probably wind up taking the rear seat out just to find this damn thing that should be $2 on eBay...

Some days...

Good news: I found my CSv. It was in the bag with the fuel lines.

Bad news: I've now lost all my rubber bits from the intake brackets, hose clamps and exhaust brackets.

This is really bizarre. I bag and tag everything, so I'm literally misplacing full bags of parts. Maybe I should have started using a respirator earlier on in my automotive endeavours.
