Everything was done in Nappa leather.

Smells awesome, cant wait to bolt it all back in!

Hi Stian,

Nappa leather is a high quality leather - I think its used in RS Audi's and other top end cars. Much better than factory IMO.

A local firm did the retrimming - very quick turnaround, and very professional. I decided to use them after seeing the work they did on a friends Honda NSX.

I didnt even ask for the rippled effect in the seats. They went looking on the net to see how the seats should look and copied it.

No no no none of that Houston muck :p

The dash has been recovered too, I'll get a pic of that.

I need to do something custom about the front speaker holes. I thought the punched holes wouldnt do it any justice.

Rear speakers are mounted in the rear panel now. I also dyed the carpets black, I'll dig out a pic.

Those are some of the best leather refurbishments on a Delorean I've ever seen!!! Looks very very very good! I can't wait to see pictures all installed. I can immagine the leather smell.

About Nappa. BMW or Mercedes uses leather as any other brand, Nappa is an option. I thnk it is some 2000€ extra to have the Nappa type leather. On these cars, the steering wheel is usually standard in nappa leather. It is the softest type of material you can immagine it is like leather with a silk coating. Looks, feels and smells fantastic. I was in a BMW garage, they had BMW 5 in the showroom with Nappa leather, that is how I experienced it.

What you should do now is use alcantara for the roof, it is the most perfect match for the Nappa.

I definitely think leather headliners would be way too much. Like someone else mentioned, Alcantara would be very appropriate, though. I can't wait to see this interior completed; the quality of the leather & the stitching are on par with modern high-end German cars for sure. I'm thoroughly impressed with the lengths to which you've recovered everything... this will truly be the only DeLorean in the world with a full leather interior.

Are you having the steering wheel redone as well? My second DeLorean had a refurbished steering wheel with Nappa leather & beefed up padding to make it slightly thicker. The original steering wheel leather (especially if it's not aged gracefully) is one area many DeLorean owners seem to neglect when tackling full restorations. The steering wheel leather tends to shrink & pull away from the center medallion; not to mention it's grain isn't the best, either.

I've seen leather headlining on a Delorean before and didnt like it - the shape of the door headlining means a few different sections are needed and I think it looks crap.

I had the steering wheel redone recently. Made a big difference!

In my opinion, a leather headliner would be too much. I would stick with the OEM replacement headliners - you don't want to overdo it or make it look like you're trying too hard. It would look too far from stock and too "customy". My ideal DeLorean would have everything that was vinyl done in fine leather (plus the A and B Pillars) and some nice wilton wool carpets. Understated improvements. Just my opinion!

I do have a picture of an Alcantara roof, I'll dig it up so you can see that beauty!

I took the centre console to a leather pro here in Vancouver and I was quoted $600... For the centre console alone!!!!

I can only imagine it was in the multiple 1000s.

I also noticed despite being asked numerous time he has not disclosed the cost and I can totally understand! I'd love to know as well but understand he may want to keep it confidential.

Fun fact - I had no idea napa leather was sheep skin!

I have just received back from my local re-upholstery shop the following parts beautifully recovered in a mix of black and grey vinyl:

Center console
Center armrest
Left driver’s side kneepad
Right driver’s side kneepad
Passenger side kneepad
Dash End Cap RH and LH
Binnacle
RH door side (upper)
LH door side (upper)
RH door side (lower)
LH door side (lower)
RH and LH rear panel
RH and LH lower armrest
Door trim “A” RH
Door trim “B” RH
Door trim “A” LH
Door trim “B” LH

The reupholstery shop (http://tinlizzieaffair.com/) I used is in the north Dallas area and highly qualified.

I also have new black/grey seats, new carpeting and AM steering wheel. By far the biggest challenge is that all pieces are now a tiny bit larger so it's a son of a gun to make them fit, and if you're too rough with it then you're running the risk of damaging the rather brittle plastic inside.

I will post pictures when I'm done installing everything.

Fair enough, I can respect that :) I might be convinced one day to spend that kind of cash on a really thorough interior treatment if I knew it would come out that nice. Main reason I've left well enough alone this long is that you kinda don't know what you'll get.

Don is also doing an amazing job on 573 and all with factory materials. These two threads are just giving me interior envy :)

Cost in total was around 2k. That also included some fibreglass work to refurb the upper door cards so price varies a bit!

I must be mad doing it but the interior needed lifted badly, and so this should hopefully last a long time.

So we have completed a frame off, engine rebuild, and gearbox rebuild.

Next project will be getting the stainless sorted out, but I'll need to save up my pennies again.

Right you are, it was a typo - I meant to say 4k, which was still wrong and based on my hasty estimate of 1 GBP = 2 USD. Still very reasonable :)

Just had the windscreen resealed today before refitting the interior.



It had clearly separated from the top but once it was out, we noticed it wasnt properly sealed all the way round except for the bottom.

I went ahead and removed the airbox under the dash. I never got air from the vents properly because it was all pissing out from the damage.

How it was damaged I have no idea, but the previous owner made a real bodge of fixing it.

I was dreading this job but it was actually pretty straight forward. Not hard at all.

Then the windscreen installed as to hold the leather in place and form the inside, give the leather the look of wrapping underneath instead of stopping at the windshield. Just a note, and the reason I haven't installed my new windscreen yet.

Good spot. We should be able to make the pillars fit nice, I prefer the idea of being able to remove them without cutting them out if thats ever needed.

If they dont, I might cry a little inside.

I can see the advantage of being able to remove the a pillars. Have you decided the nicest way to screw them in to the post?
It would be nice to design something that allowed it to snap in to place...
