I have never seen this DeLorean. So the guy must never drive it! (SLC isn't all that big!)

Was anyone looking into picking up this Black beauty?

Not bad, but I think that a painted Delorean has much less impact than a stainless one... (the black one is beautiful, the red one on ebay is nice too... especially the custom interiors)!

I always wonder why ebay sellers want you to contact them via email (outside of ebay) first before bidding, and if they don't they will cancel all?????

Well I re entered 29,000 as a max bid knowing it wouldn't meet reserve. if someone wants to bid it up(at 10k now) it will pretty much expose this clown.

Second, he is a new seller (Feb. 1, 2013) with zero feedback trying to sell a car, AND trying to get you to contact him directly through an email account. The specifics are vast, but once someone expresses an interest, he can take the scam in a number of directions. I seriously doubt he is even in the US, probably in China, Africa, and now Eastern Bloc countries are becoming quite popular in the internet scam buiz.

I used to to give a crap about some poor unsuspecting soul cashing a cashier's check and wiring the remainder back to Nigeria, but now I see it as education for the stupid...If they are that stupid to fall for it in the first place, they NEED to learn this lesson in a way they will remember it.

All right, now this was helpful. :) Even though I've seen lots of pictures in these months, I never met that particular photos before. For sure I would have been warned if I had recognized the pics. moreover, there are no features about the conditions of the car, what's functioning and what's not, and there are no references to any works that he could have done on the vehicle, right? When I see an eBay aucion I'm always overwhelmed by a lots of informations about the car, and in this case there are just a few.

I sent the seller an email and this is what they sent:

Thank you for your interest in my 1981 DeLorean DMC-12. I want you to know that I closed my auction earlier because someone offered me the buy it now price, but didn't have all the money available and I cannot accept financing. The price I want to obtain for the vehicle is $15,000 US (this price includes shipping and insurance charges).
It is like new, completely working, perfect running condition,with no hidden damages or accidents,it has always been garage kept, low miles, non-smoker no flood or storms. The title is clear and you will be able to register the vehicle in your state without any problems.
I am requesting a $15,000 refundable deposit at the beginning of the shipping. If you are not 100% content with the vehicle you will be able to ship it back on my expense to get your deposit back. I am sure this will not happen, because it is a state of the art vehicle and you will have no reasons not to be content with it.
We will use eBay Motors as third party. First you will pay the funds to eBay and you will send the receipt proving your payment to eBay. Please note that eBay will hold your deposit of $15,000 until you will confirm that you received the vehicle and you transferred the title into your name.
If you agree with these terms, please send me your full name, home and shipping address, eBay ID so I can register the transaction with eBay asap

ebay motors don't act as 3rd party on any sale.

I answered a similar ad a few years ago, and when I asked to view the car, suddenly it was in a shipping container in customs, so sorry, I can't show it at the moment. :)

If you know the city that the ad is supposed to be from, tell them that you are visiting this week and would like to see the car and see what he says. Just for fun :)

+1 on the scam. Exactly how it went down with a motorcycle for sale on ebay about which i inquired. Scammer used photos off of the Internet to list and also wanted money up front placed into an escrow account of his choosing. He was from Italy and was going to have the bike shipped over here upon receipt of the money and I could return the bike if it wasn't to my satisfaction.

They always say that - it's part of the con(fidence) game. Makes you feel good about it, until you find out there is no escrow account and your money is gone. No car either. . .

As soon as shipping is mentioned or someone that is supposed to pick up after payment is made I end all communication. I don't care if you're "on an oil rig at sea and only have access to Paypal." I run into this a lot with Craigslist ads. In my ads I request the interested party to send me their phone number so that I can call them. If they don't read the ad I remind them that it was requested in the ad. That takes care of most issues. Scammers rarely give out phone numbers and addresses and if they do, google them.

Doesn't look like a scam immediately, no. Member for nearly two years with a good bit of positive feedback, vehicle history report lines up with auction location and telephone area code.

This is an interesting one.

The autocheck report matches the records of 01469. And the phone number matches someone called Chuck in Port Charlotte, FL, but I am not sure that the two things tie together.

01469 was previously owned by a forum member on here Robert G (delorean937) {who owned my sister car also} and he got it as a barn find in 2006. He lived/lives in Sarasota. He listed it for sale on the DML in 2010 (prior to buying 2744), noting that it had a new engine. Robert listed it as having 18000 miles, whereas the new ad says 6000. It is also originally listed as a Black interior.

Definitely the third picture is a file photo, and as none of the rest match up with what this car is supposed to look like, then as Chris says, perhaps the seller is just lazy. He does say that “they all look the same”.


It’s also possible that the odometer was reset to 0 with the new engine, but the autocheck report shows a mileage of 13000+ in 2011. Though that was supposedly in California, which doesn’t seem right. I guess someone could have moved it out to CA and then moved right back again.



There are definitely a few inaccuracies in this ad. I would recommend getting some actual photos of the car in question.

But in your case, John, I would prefer a car with fewer question marks.

I have talked to the owner of the car. He wants 15k for it. Probably could put another 10k to 15k in it.
