Hey everyone, been a while since I've posted on the forums. Hope all is well.
I'm sorry for the urgency of the title for this post but I have a bit of a situation here. I will do my best to explain and also to get to the point.
I was on my way home from work last friday, and I received a phone call from an old car club buddy from way back in the day. Hadn't heard from him in a few years. After the pleasantries he asked if I still had my DeLorean. Random. I sadly had to answer, no. He then asked if I knew anyone that did. To which I said, a couple. He then said, is there any way you could get one to show up for something? I said I wasn't really sure and I asked, why? He said, well, there's a local man in our community that I've been made aware of that has just been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. He's having a birthday party this Sunday in Alton. He then said, "his last wish is to finally see & drive a DeLorean.".......I was stunned. Wow.
I told my car buddy to let me make a phone call and I'd get back with him. I immediately called a local owner from my area and ran it by him and he agreed to show up with his D and let him drive it! Funniest thing, this owner is also the same owner who let me drive a DeLorean for the first time way back in the day and not only that, same car too!!! So I called my car club buddy back and asked if the man could drive a stick. LOL.
To the point:
The reason I'm posting this is that I would like to take this a step further. I know this is in haste and very short notice but I was only made aware of it recently and this situation is very time sensitive. As a cancer survivor this hits very close to home for me.
Guys and girls, Gentlemen and ladies, owners, is there a way any of you in or close to the Alton, IL area would be interested in getting out your D's and cruising up this weekend to surprise this man at his party? I know it's cold out and this is such short notice. You don't have to stay long and you wouldn't have to do anything other than cruise up and park and chill next to your gleaming beauty for a while. I think it would be so cool to surprise him with not only one, but a whole parking lot of stainless!! I'm asking this of you all because I've seen what it means to be an owner and to be part of this family. I've experienced it firsthand when I had mine. There's a lot of love and passion in this community and I'm appealing to it now. I have absolutely nothing to offer any of you who would show up anything in return other than a hug and a sincere thank you. Is there any of you who would like to show up for this man and give him a taste of not only the single greatest car ever made, but also the best car community out there?
I've posted the information for the party below. If you have time, please attend. I'm sure it will move mountains for him. Thank you very very very much everyone for your time, and thank you for reading. I hope some of you can make it.
Your friend and hopefully an owner again someday,
Brandt Gvillo

We'd love to have ya, and thanks! I'm hoping so as well. The situation really sucks but it'd be a great thing to do if we could pull it off! I just hope enough people who are local and are interested see this in time.

Yes he's right in the backyard of Alton. From what I understand however Marty's is put up for the winter.

Hey I just noticed your vin #. Were you at Starbucks in Edwardsville a couple Sundays ago?
If so, I was the guy who ran up and looked at your car! I was making sure it wasn't my old one!!

There's a pretty good chance that was me. I'm up there on Saturdays after working out and then sometimes on a Sunday. Did we get a chance to talk?

Mine came out of DMCF..but I wonder if your car was the one Andy bought? Thanks for putting this together! It's the least I could do. Jake's a great guy for sure..one of the best things about owning the car is the friendships I've made. I feel lucky to have gotten to know him and Marti.

It was a Saturday. It was yours then! Haha. Small world. Mine ended up being bought by Fastlane in St. Charles and sold to someone from there. It's vin was '5444. Great car.
Jake and Marty are truly awesome. Back when I was in high school I dropped by his house unannounced one day because he had one of his D's out front, first one I'd seen in real life, and he spent 4 hours just going over both of his D's for me.
Jake was the first person to trust me driving their DeLorean. They both dropped by at the drop of a dime to go over my D once I got it home. I could go on all day about them. They're both amazing people.
It truly is the best group of car people there is and I mean that sincerely.
If it wouldn't be too much trouble would you mind helping to spread the word to any other owners you know in the area that may not know about this event? The more we could get to show up to this the better!
Thanks again!!!

No, we didnt get to talk. I just swung through with my wife to get some coffee on our way to a craigslist deal and I saw it and just ran up to check the vin to make sure it wasn't my old one. Haha.

They had it from June - Sept of 2011. Where do you work at? I work in Maryland Heights at Bastian Robotics just across from the Verizon Amphitheater! The drive SUCKS taking 270 in but once it gets warmer and lighter out in the evenings I like taking twisty 94 in and back!

We should all meet somewhere in Alton and then cruise up together! The building has windows in front so you can see anything drive by but if we circle around and come from the Alton bridge side and park in that side parking lot, no one will be the wiser!

Hey Mike and Mike!
Looks like we are being blessed with good weather for Sunday!
We definitely need to meet up somewhere first and all come in at once. I was told by his family that he has no idea there are going to be any DeLoreans show up, not even Jake's. We need to plan our arrival and cruise in together because he'll see us through the big picture windows out front if we don't.
We'll need to meet, cruise up and hook around the back way from the bridge side avoiding Broadway at all costs, and park in that big parking lot between the Alton Police Station and Jimmy The Greeks. Once we're all parked and situated I'll make contact with his cousin who will be inside and the surprise will be on! :ohcrap:
This should be good! I'll give Jake a call later today to go over where we could possibly be meeting at. I'm thinking meet at 2:45ish and that should give us time to have a nice ride up!
A big huge THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!!!!!!! :grouphugg:

Oh yeah, and Jake suggested that we all should grab some lunch/dinner while we're there if you both are interested. Sounds great to me and if that's something you guys want to do, I'll be buying!!

Sounds good to me! I spoke with Jake the other day and he may come past my house first and head up from there. We're on board with lunch too, no need to buy - you've done plenty. Thanks for coordinating!

I went to the garage earlier this week and noticed a huge puddle of green under the D. :(
I'm investigating this afternoon. I hope its just a hose that let go. I think she's upset from sitting all winter!

Thanks so much again guys!! It was so cool to watch everyone come together for Dave. Words cannot express how great of a group of people we've got here. His family contacted me after we went for pizza and said this really put a smile on his face and they said that smile will probably never leave. I just wanted you guys to know that YOU are all responsible for that and they are so grateful for what you all did today.
I can't begin to imagine what Dave's going through and how he manages to deal with the weight that's been laid upon him but even if it was for a few minutes, that all just melted away. You guys did that and what a blessing it was to be a part of this and what a privilege it is to know all of you and to call you my friends.
Thank you again so much guys.
PS, I also have pics and video to share, especially that nice group pic I took at the pizza place. I'll upload them tomorrow morning once I get to a PC!

The guy and his family seemed like really nice people. His reaction to seeing all 3 cars lined up was priceless. The guy almost lost it.
It was good seeing Brandt and Jake and nice to meet Michael.
I enjoy doing thighs with the 'group'. I don't get to play often!
